My update protection will expire soon  en

OK. I have received an email from you saying that my update service is about to expire.

That's fine. But you are asking fro trust on my side but I am not getting anything in return.

I have asked and asked about digital downloads and you keep saying - we don't know when.

So I really don't know if I should stay with you or start again somewhere completely different. I can get an instant digital download from other providers as I am sure you are aware.

I have until 18/10/2018 to renew - so I look forward to your persuasive arguments as to why I should stay with websitex5. Instant digital dowloads is a crucial factor for me over the next few months as we look to move more and more of our training videos online.

Thanks

Duncan

Basically uys, you are asking me to pay £80 for a product that doesn't do what I need it to do.

Please - please - please - let meknow what the plan is.

In fact programm called Website x5 16 is the beta version of programm with bugs and it should be free till version with no bugs - then they could start counting time for update protection.

I find no problem with v16 - other than the digital downloads which seems to be a problem X5 don't seem to want to address.

My Update Protection is also expiring but I am sitting on the fence as to whether I should pay undecided

I agree with Giuseppe in that I don't really know what I'm going to be paying for.  Will I just be paying extra money just for any software bugs to get fixed - bugs that I shouldn't have to pay any extra for to get update fixes.

If I don't pay, will I still get updates to fix any current problems such as the parallax flicker?  Or do I need to pay extra for a product that should be working properly in the first place?

Hmm.... I haven't decided.

In my opinion, when you sign up for update protection, you are fully endorsing Website X5 as it is. This makes it easy for Incomedia to have a relaxed approach to fixing bugs and adding new features.

If you are not satisfied with the software, speak with your wallet. Don’t buy the upgrade protection. Instead, leave it up to Incomedia to improve their software and come to you when it’s working properly.

Hi guys!

I get your point and I understand the doubts that you can have right now, so I would like to reassure you: the point of Update Protection is to ensure you receive new versions for free. It is our full commitment to keep on developing our software. More information here: https://www.websitex5.com/en/update-protection.html

By extending the service, you will have access to all the new features which will be made available with the upcoming versions for the next 12 months, just like you did when versions 15 and 16 were released. Still, you are free to decide not to extend the service: in this case your licence will still be active, so you can possibly wait until the release of a version which does fulfill your needs.

In this case, however, I want to stress the fact that the 50% discount will only be available until the end of your Update Protection.

I am available for further information. Kind regards.

In hindsight it's a pity that Update Protection doesn't run for 12 months and then does not expire until the release of the next version following that anniversary. It is always easier to justify paying for something new rather than something you already have.

However, without update protection I suspect there would not have been 3 version releases in the past 12 months.

Thanks Elisa and thank you Esahc.

But, what I need is the immediate digital downloads. As I have said before ad nauseam is that nobody expects to purchase a digital download product and then ot be able to download it. I know there is an app - but, we have a product that we are working on at the moment and are uploading shortly. This is video based and is a result of 25 years hard work in the face-to-face environement. It is a teacher training product. It is a global product. We will be selling it quite cheaply and, therefore, need a cost effective way of delivering it. WebsiteX5 would be ideal if only we had the instant download.

I cannot expect someone in e.g. China to be cotent to purchase the product(s) and then have to wait 6 hours becasue I am asleep. The whole process needs to be automatic and instant.

Can incomedia truly believe that we would be happy to purchase websiteX5 and then wait for up to 6 hours before we could download it? No, that is just not possible.

I am having to update my three crucial websites. This will require a lot of work. I would love to be able to do that on X5 but it is absolutely essential for me to be able to have an instant download facility for my digital products. It is with heavy heart but, unless I can have that assurance from icomedia, I am better off rebuilding the wesbites completely on a more favourable platform.

Come on icomedia, everyone else can do it, why can't you?

However, without update protection I suspect there would not have been 3 version releases in the past 12 months.

it's an illusion! you call each patch a new version (you have previously added several new tools in the patches ....)
... but what users need is not added or works poorly (it is strongly limited in settings). the number of errors exceeds the limit (however, as in the versions 11,12,13,14 etc). mistakes you decide sometimes 4 months and then if the user can prove them!

suppose before the release of version 17, I ended with "update protection" but in version 16 I found a serious mistake - will you make a patch for version 16? I think no...
you tell me to buy 17 which is unacceptable !!! I will agree with many in this topic and refrain from buying and in a year I'll think about whether your program is worth buying (just by that time you may have a stable version)

I won’t be buying the upgrade protection. Instead, I will wait to see when the features WENEED are implemented. Only then will Incomedia be “rewarded” with my purchase.

I think the amount of vigrous discussions here must be an eye opener for Incomedia. Let us give them a last chance. If it really happens as discussed above, in future no need to buy Update Protection. I will be buying and enjoy discount too!

I agree totally that that old way was better. At least at the end of the cycle run you could hang with the old stable release while the new version got some of the bugs worked out. And if you don't renew your license before it runs out, then you'll going to pay twice as much to get back in.

Remember the bean counters run a business in todays world, certainly not the customers or the marketing people with their BS. They don't care if it hurts profits down the road or offends customers. It's all about now and profits, not the future or customers. It's the same old story, they get greedy, raise costs, customers back off, more schemes to increase profits with less included features. Quality and features per cost goes down. Then the cycle continues on and the you end up down with the Titanic.

I am going to renew my subscription to X5 Pro even though I like two other programs better. I think there is only 3-1/2 programs left that you can load on your computer that's worth anything so I'm still supporting X5.

My license expires in about 3 weeks so I still have time to think about it. They know they have us between a rock and a hard spot and we'll have to "pony up". It's not going to change, they will just give a polite kiss on the forehead if you complain and send you on your way. Then you have to decide is it "pay me now, or pay me later", or throw what you've learned and used with X5 in to the porcelain throne and flush? Once again, another company that really knows how to please it customers. Go figure!

Cheers

Hi everyone,

Update Protection is used to keep WebSite X5 up-to-date: thanks to it we can release more full versions during the year, regardless of when the program was purchased the first time.

This service was introduced to meet the needs of many of our users, especially for those who used to buy the software not long before a new version was released.  As you may understand, no one would be happy to find out that a newly purchased product becomes outdated after a few months or weeks.

Still, the choice to renew or not the Update Protection, depends on each of you and is, in the first instance, a decision that must be made according to your personal needs. If you want to keep working with a constantly updated software, and therefore to trust usyou can extend the Update Protection.

If, however,  your priority is not to be able to always use the newest version, and you are more interested in a particular feature, you are free to choose not to extend the service. In this case, you can wait for the release of a version that better fulfills your needs. Even if you choose this second option, you will still be able to continue working with the program.

Also, please keep in mind that, having several thousand customers in various countries of the world, each one with different needs, it would be very difficult to be able to satisfy all the individual requests by adding the suggested features. Surely, the suggestions you send us are reported and taken into consideration, but it is unfortunately always necessary to make a choice. Furthermore, it is our goal to keep WebSite X5 an easy-to-use tool and this, too, necessarily involves important decisions.

Please let me know if I can be of further help.

There appears to be a growing concensus that Incomedia’s customers are giving up on Website X5. This often represents the beginning of the end. I think Incomedia should be in panic mode.

Everyone who has issues with a missing feature in WX5 quite rightly believes that without this one feature they need then the world will come to an end. It is impossible for Incomedia to meet every requirement immediately in my opinion, but I am sure that they are working towards meeting the needs of the majority and eventually everyone. That said, everyone who complains, be it parallax flicker, instant downloads, confirmation of order before payment, inconsistency of various devices and browsers,  etc. etc says there are better alternatives.

If they are better, what are they and why are they not using them?

I too have a number of "issues" on my wish list that I would rather not live without, other packages / online design sites offer these features and I could drop wx5. But no other product offers me the level of stability and consistency, the total control, the ongoing ownership of the product without a monthly or yearly payments, the need to not be concerned about site security and the excellent support network like here on the help center.

I personally do not like Update Protection in it's current form (as stated above), but if Incomedia come to the party, offer new and enhanced features, meet reasonable user requests and wipe out apparent bugs or inconsistencies then I  will persist.

Sorry. . .  I will get off my soap box now.

The reaction of Elisa is very clear and I understand.  I have too some features that I want in WX5. I have also tried other programms, which are very hard to work with, and in these programms I miss some features which WX5 have. I think in any programm you will find pro's and cons comparing to WX5.

And like Esahc says:  Lot of people  talk about other programms which are better.... why they are still here?

I think Wx5 is a good programm, and about the update protection: One way or they other, we have to pay to keep the programm up-to-date ( which is fair). If this is every year one new programm, or in steps with updates. Personally I like couple of updates every year, its easy to handle as every year one update and to have learn a nearly compleet new programm.

I like WX5 too!

However, I do not like the way people treat customers. If one reports an error or an inconsistency, one is constantly calmed down with the same phrases. And ... nothing happens! No, the thread is even closed after a certain time, so you can not ask again, what is the state.

I stick with version 15.1.1 and wait for a statement, when probably the level menu gets the possibility to define an active status. In addition, images are regularly created multiple times for unknown reasons. And that seems to lead to the fact that with changes then pictures are not represented any more. An already very long existing problem, which is reported again and again. All this does not really lead to confidence in product marketing and development.

I have Evo and Pro and I for sure will not extend the Evo. But should I extend the Pro without knowing that those things will be fixed? Or should I stick to the 15.1.1. That's very frustating!

I just want something that works well and know what I'm going to be paying for in regards to the yearly update fee.

I've been using WX5 for years and love the idea of this product.  I have also used Serif Webplus (no longer available).  If I were a web coder I wouldn't need X5 and could create all the various features I wanted but I'm not a coder and understand X5 has limitations.  I knew what I was getting and can work with it.

I know nothing can be 100% perfect but before a product is supplied to the consumer it should be one that does what it says without having to be corrected.  If a product is tested well and works well then the time that would have been spent on corrective measures can be spent on developing new functions.

How much time is used up correcting and fixing current problems?  Maybe that time could have been used developing a better CMS or shopping cart or whatever...

So for me there are 2 points:

  1. I want X5 to work well (with the functions it already has).
  2. I want to know what I'm going to be paying for in the future. What features?

John,

You are an absolute star. Thank you a million times. That does just what I was looking for. And they are only 2 hours up the motorway if I need to go and talk things through.

Perhaps WX5 could team up. That would be an awesome combination.

Thank you again.

I hate it when we have to find a third party solution to a position that WX5 has not been able to fuflfill. Basically I would like to be able to get all my solutions from one-and-the-same provider so I know wehre to for a problem.
