Restoring web page after hard disc crash  en

Hi,

I have a website (www.brflarkan.nu) which I have made in WebSite 5 Evolution 13 and which I have on a web host called one.com. Last week the hard disc crashed on the computer where I have (or had) the program and from where I used to manage my site. Now I have bought a new computer which I intend to use in the same way. I have downloaded the web site program again and updated it to the latest version.

So now I have the web site program on my comuter - but without all the contents, and my web site is still there out on the internet (and at the web host) - but without me being able to change anything on it. So my (somewhat desperate) question is this: Is it possible for me to restore my site in any easy way? Is there any way for me "import back" what I have exported to the web host and the internet? If so, what should I do? Or do I have to build everything up from the beginning again?

Yours

Websitex5 needs a project, if you don't have iwzip or backup files, you can open a new proect and build the stucture of the published homepage. Content such as texts, pictures, etc. can be copied from the homepage.
An externally stored iwzip file should be created regularly for security.

There is no converter from html / php to websitex5 project!

Sometimes it is possible to recover the majority of the files from a hard drive even after it has crashed.

Last summer, I had two hard drives that crashed. So I purchased a program called Data Rescue PC4. With this software, I was able to recover 99% of my files from one of the hard drives.

The other drive was making a ticking sound when being used. This was a mechanical failure. The Data Rescue software did not do anything. However, I placed the hard drive into a plastic freezer bag, and then into the freezer for about 20 hours. After removing the drive from the freezer, I quickly inserted it into a separate hard disk enclosure, and then tried to access the drive.

It worked for about 20 minutes, and I immediately started to copy the files that I needed the most to another (new) hard drive. Then, as the drive warmed up, it stopped working again. So, I put the drive back into the freezer for another 20 hours. Then I repeated the process above, thereby recovering more of my critical files. After several days of repeating this process, I recovered everything that I really needed to recover.

There are no guarantees, but often a “dead” hard drive isn’t really dead.

Hello Christer,

as already mentioned by other users, you need the file .iwzip of the project to restore it.

It is not possible restore the project by the html files on the Internet.

If you have the folder with the .iwprj file you can try to send me this folder so i can analyze it.

Let me know.

Christer, unfortunately the iwprj is of little value without the support files (all files in the project folder).

You say you have found the iwprj, so can I assume you were able to access the crashed HD on the old PC? If so, you may be able to copy the whole project from it's original location to the same location on your new PC.

c:\users\yourname\Documents\Incomedia\Website X5 v13 - Evolution\yourproject

All things being equal your project should open.

Thank you so much for trying to help me. Now I think I have all .iwprj files (about 70 files called iwprj2) with (hopefully correct) uploads from Dec. 2016 until Jan.2019 on my new computer. I also have the Evolution 13 program installed ... and for some reason that I do not really understand, one of the earliest versions of my website is now (ie before most of the 70 updates) there too.

You have probably already answered the question, but I do not have enough computer knowledge to understand if it is possible to restore all those updates as well, and if so, how so to it.

Well done!

Update is so much better than recreate.

If you were able to copy what you have is it possible that if you copy the old hd folder to the new PC the project may be more up to date?
