I have v13 on my pc and on my laptop, but my laptop has broken down and I have downloaded the program from my account again and activated it with my licence, however when I open it and I see my previous site, it keeps looking for a zip file rather than the simple project file, I don't have a zip file, I only have the project file that I copied from my broken laptop

Hello Michaela,

Here is an article from Incomedia on how to restore your project from an .iwprj2 file, in the event that you don't have a .zip file (but still have your old project folder), also known as an IWZIP file in the WebSite X5 world.

https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/pl/post/177728

The article references version 14, but the procedure in version 13 is virtually identical.

But in case you need it, here is the relevant extract from the version 13 help file:

http://help.websitex5.com/en/v13/pro/index.html?backup_ht.htm

Going forwards, it would be prudent to make frequent IWZIP backup copies of your WebSite X5 project(s).  You can do this in Step 5 Export > Export the Project.  The IWZIP file is the holy grail of WebSite X5 backup, and encapsulates all the data needed to recreate your project in a single file.

Kind regards,

Paul

Michaela, I have in the past had success moving projects to new hardware.

Assuming you have your old hard drive, if you copy all project folders to the new PC they should open. If there were then errors I resorted to restoring backups included in each project folder.

You should find your project folders in c:\users\yourname\documents\incomedia\Website X5 v13 - Evolution assuming you left the default directories, so copy everything in the Incomedia directory to the same place on your new PC.

Unfortunately WX5 requires the full project folder (with all the support files), not just the project file in order to open a project which is why Paul's advise on creating an iwzip (regularly) after you successfully restore your project/s is essential for future recovery.
