Hope someone can help me.Im pretty new to all this so I apologise in advance for my ignorance.
I have been using Website Pro 12 for a while and have never had any problems uploading my website, but since upgrading to Website X5 Pro 2020.1.7 I have been unable to upload correctly.I followed the exact procedure as in Pro 12,and the files upload, but when I view my website it is an unusuable mixture of my old & new website.I presumed it would just overwrite my old website.I have tried using FTP Software to remove my old website from the server, but then I cannot upload the new version at all.I know I must be doing something dumb,so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

"Tried"? Were you able to remove files from your public_htlm folder?

Hello, not all of them.Managed to delete nearly all the files but some I could not.Stuart
Hello Stuart,
It sounds very much as if your FTP settings in Step 5 are amiss.
Have you compared (very carefully) your settings in version 12 with those in version 2020.1.7?
Unfortunately it will be hard to troubleshoot this without lots of further information. WebSite X5 is unlikely to be at fault here.
Your webhost will be able to assist you if you are unsure what your FTP connection details are.
Who do you host with?
Kind regards,
Paul

Thanks for your reply. All my settings seem the same. Not sure what Im doing wrong.I host with Fasthosts.

You might not need them, but here are some links to Fasthost specific hosting guides which could be useful to you:

Have you cleared your browser cache? If not then it might contain a mixture of old and new pages. Press F5 whilst holding down the CTRL key to reload the page fully in the browser you are using to test with. Or open your website in an incognito/private browser window. Or try another browser altogether.
It would be best to clear your WebSite X5 project folder (on the server) of all contents if at all possible, before doing a FULL as opposed to partial upload from version 2020.1.7 in Step 5. What FTP software have you tried using? Can you see your WebSite X5 files and folders on the server? If so, can you delete them? If any remain, which ones? Take great care not to delete any folders ABOVE your WebSite X5 project root folder.
There are two especially important settings to double-check in Step 5 of WebSite X5... one is the Website Address (URL), which must match EXACTLY the structure on the server (e.g. be careful if uploading into a test or sub folder). The other is the Destination folder which should reflect the root folder of your WebSite X5 project on the server.
Version 2020.1.7 of WebSite X5 now requires a minimum of PHP version 7.1 for many features to work correctly (including contact forms, shopping cart, login/logout, etc.) - sites can appear 'broken' if using an earlier PHP version. Fasthosts will be able to advise you as to the version of PHP currently installed.
Are you able to share the website address with us? That could be useful.

Hello,If I upload my website using X5 12 Pro,everthing seems to be fine.If I then upload the website using x5 PRO 2020.1 to overwrite the older pages, the website comes up,but everthing is `mixed up` on the page(ie unusable). If I delete all the files from the htdocs folder on server, then upload the new website ,I get a 404 error page. When I looked at the settings on my dashboard page on my hosting package there was no settings for changing the PHP,unlike my other uploaded websites.Hope this helps.Regards,Stuart
Stuart, could you provide a link to your site with v2020.1 overlayed over v12 and uploaded exactly as WX5 wants to have it (do not rename any files) so we can see if we see what you are describing? Assuming you are flushing the cache of your browser (CTRL+F5) it sounds as if your php files are not recognised on your host.

Hello,I have just uploaded the new site to the server using website X5 Pro 2020.1.The old website is still there with only a few parts of the new one.Regards,Stuart

Thanks for the link, Stuart.
Could you point out which parts/pages/sections of the website are 'new'? At first glance I can't see any evidence of version 2020.1 being uploaded.
At this stage if I had to guess I would say that version 2020.1 is uploading into the wrong folder on the server. In Step 5 of WebSite X5 (working in version 2020.1) can you see your X5 project files and folders when you press the button highlighted in red below?
Even better, could you please post a screenshot of what you see when you click on that button?
I notice you're on a Windows server... they can be a little tricky to configure. You might need to ask Fasthosts to verify that PHP 7.1 or above is installed, as it looks at this point as if it certainly isn't. However, that's a separate issue.
OK, I've now found some scripts from version 2020.1... which prompts me to ask you to check something in version 2020.1 of WebSite X5 please.
Can you go to Step 3 Map... click on your home page once in the Sitemap Creation screen to give it focus/highlight it, then click on the button marked 'Properties' in the toolbar above. In the new screen which opens, check that you have not accidentally renamed the File Name to something other than index
Got it!
You have an Entry Page set in Step 1 Settings > Advanced... however, this can't be processed because PHP is not installed/configured correctly on the server... so the redirect to index.php doesn't happen, nor can the 2020.1 homepage be displayed because it is a PHP file as opposed to an HTML one.
So, you definitely need to ask Fasthosts to install PHP 7.1 or above on this server, then all should be well.

Thanks for your replies.I had a feeling it had to do with PHP 7.1 not available on the server.I will contact them ASAP.Thankyou so much for your time and knowledge.Regards,Stuart
All seems to be working fine now, Stuart
