This is my Home Page:

What sort of ideas, contained within the range of websiteX5's processes, can anybody suggest to make my Home Page less "Grid"-like, less square...lol?!
Any simple but EFFECTIVE ideas would be most welcome.

Hi Nigel!
Well, you can change the cell style where it is pointy and round your corners and if I may, I don't think you need to add a cell to each object in your page.
You can also decide to attach two cell styles and make it look like a single cell instead of two or more. In order to do this, you simply click on the ''set the cell's inner and outer margins'' icon above the page grid and bring all the numbers to zero for each cell. This will delete the distance between them.
Futhermore, if you add a frame to your picture and you only have a picture without text maybe you don't need a cell beneath it.
Apart from this, well done! It looks like you have put a lot of effort into it!

Thanks Frank & Samantha.
I will certainly explore!
I hadn't drilled that far down beneath the skin of the software...WHAT? Unlike me...lol!
Keep the ideas coming guys and guyesses!

Samantha...
How does one round off the corners of a cell?
I just can't find the process in the "cell style" options nor in any forum topic
Well you should create the image yourself with a graphic editor like photoshop. You simply have to create a rectagle with round corners and save it as .png. Then add it in the Cell Style section, after choosing the ''fit to cell background''.
I have attached an example for you keeping the same colors you have in your website!

Ah...thanks Samantha!
I can manage that...I thought there must have been an inbuilt software method.
It's really really difficult tweaking and editing the home page.
I've ended up where I started as I think I lack that extra artistic perception and I seem stuck with my basic methodology.
Lol!
Ok...as you wish! It's your website so you have to like it in the first place and you are always in time to change it! I think the best thing you can do is look a bit around the web without rush and eventually you will be inspired by something!
Nigel make it self updating..... Now there's a thought?
My Cyber Cafe updates itself everyday with a new image on the front and there are RSS News feeds from the UK News which keeps up-to-date automatically. Doing it this way visitors think you are changing the homepage everyday yourself and you're NOT
You can round the corners by using CSS too.....

SAMANTHA!
No...I think your ideas are dead right. I'm just saying I have to get my head round them.
That test .png is great!
I tried it.
Tell me how you created it, please.
I have Photoshop and CorelDraw.
It needs to be a TWO colour transition (248/210/01 on the top side and 176/235/67 on the lower side but with more of the latter showing, if you get me.)
(Frank...thanks for your input, mate!)
Actually, I shouldn't explain how to use Photoshop, but I will help you exeptionally, only for this time!
Open Photoshop, create a new document (square or rectangle, it's the same. The previous one I did is 224 x 168px); pick the ''Rounded Rectangle Tool '' from the Rectangle tool list in the tool bar and add 15px in the ''Radius'' field above your page in the hor toolbar. Then simply create your rectangle with rounded edges.
If you wish to customize it, go into ''Layer'' - ''Layer style''.
I added the ''Stroke'' option - the orange line round the rectangle. You can add inner shadows, outer shadows and so on. If you wish to shade it, use the gradient option and pick the colors you need.
Have fun!

Thanks Samantha!
A G&T waiting in London for you.
I'm just battling away at Photoshop and I got as far as the tool but I NEEDED that last help something badly!
Lol! There's no precedent when I try and Google the answer.
I've spent two days on it and I usually end up getting it right.
Might be nice to add some sort of TOOL to Incomedia in the future.
I think the process is incorporated into other softwares.
Anyway...thankee!

Just one more thing, Samantha...
I have now fairly well mastered the process of creating these cells, in simple form.
HOWEVER, I am finding that the "gradient overlay" is corrupted when placed in my project.
I enclose a file I made and if you place this as a cell you'll see what I mean.
Any work round?
You're very welcome Nigel!
That happens because the image you add in the cell style is not just added as it is, but it is cut into little pieces and multiplied in hor and in ver in order to adjust itself to what you are adding. look at the ''fit to cell background'' option icon in the program to see what i mean. It's a bit tricky!
You need to add a smaller shadow or add it in the center of your cell, or else, you need to add it as ''image background'' but then you'll need to adjust the cell size yourself according to the image you add.

Hmmm...yes.
RIGHT! Definite suggestion here then for future upgrade, eh what?
(I'LL KEEP THIS THREAD OPEN FOR OTHER IDEAS)

Samantha?
See what you think of the page now...I've been busy!
ONE THING became apparant, though!
Attempting to save similar cell styles is really confusing as there's nowhere to label them to make selection easier.
ALSO, it would seem there are yet MORE shapes and patterns that have to remain in the same PC directory structure or vanish into eternity!
Best wishes.
Dear Nigel,
Superb! Well done! A huge step forward! Did you enjoy doing it?
If I have understood correctly what you are trying to do, you simply have to create your cell style as explained previously then add it to your library section. You will then be able to select it from there whenever you need it but you can not name it. this is not possible.
I'm not quite sure what you mean with ''MORE shapes and patterns that have to remain in the same PC directory structure or vanish into eternity'', could you please kindly expalin a bit more and eventually attach a screenshot if possible?
Thank you!

Thanks Samantha!
Yes...I'm talking about the "fit to cell" directory that I have just for Photoshop ".png"s.
Obviously, the links are to that directory for the project.
I am assuming that should I accidentally delete that directory on my PC then the cell shapes will disappear from the project? (like photos that are moved/deleted, etc.)
I'm Not likely to as I back up to three external drives...but you get my point?
That is one of the reasons I may have to split my project into several pieces as the ".IWZIP" file (see another thread) can only be saved when my PC is in SAFE MODE (about 4gb) and I have a quite powerful machine!
I am having to back up all my directory structures because, as far as I know, the ".IWZIP" file places all the files in one directory when expanded again on a new PC and, for a large site like mine, that could be like finding needles in the proverbial haystacks...lol!
Best of...N
Yes Nigel that is correct. If you add the cell style to your project, WebSite X5 will remember the image file path and it will search for that image in that place everytime you open the project. In fact if you move it, then you go look for it in the library, you won't find it's preview. If you click on it then click on ''apply'' and go back into the ''style'' section, you will find the file path. This means that you will then have to add the image again and it will then work correctly.
hi.
im planning to make a property portal website, which should have searchable drop down menus.
It will have a searchable portal like the following website :
http://www.qualitylondonapartments.co.uk/
..... is it possible to make it in website x5. (as far as i know there is a simple 'inshert search feild option' on the 'edit website template' option in website x5.
Thankyou and waiting.
Hi Alpha!
Yes, website does give you the opportunity to add search fields in your project but, you can not add them in the drop down menu automatically.
If you need this option, please feel free to post and idea for our WebSite X5 creators.
Please open a new post for each question in the future.
Thank you!
