Search for "commands / items" while in website editor  en

Background. I'm slowly pulling away from CMS software for my websites. (Gobbles memory, pain to keep php version correct etc ...). I first looked at jAlbum and now use that to create my photo-galleries. jAlbum sent out an email a couple of weeks ago about WebSite X5. Used the trial version, liked what I saw, purchased a couple of days ago. (P.S. Many thanks to Stefano (best support) for unconfusing me!)

Like WebSite X5, jAlbum has more settings than stars in the Universe, and like WebSite has a steep learning curve. But one of the very nice features of jAlbum is that you can search within the interface for commands / related settings.

It would really help a lot if the developers would consider something like this  for WebSite X5

I may not have understood...
but if you press F1 you have the online Help where you find the table of contents and you can search for the commands or functions you need

And then there is the manual....

Claudio, Actually I meant search within the program to find "stuff". If you look at the supplied graphic, within jAlbum there is a search keyin, and in the example (jAlbum_Settings.jpg) I searched for "Tags" and the response shows me all the places that the tags setting can be used. It's only a thought, but for Newbies (like me) it could really help locate stuff.  Stay Safe out there - Nigel

in my opinion it's identical to what you are asking for, only it's online

Cludio,

Sadly it's not. For instance, I have a picture file called "pixabay-768432.webp" that was used in the template. It appears to be in the header,  As a new user it's hard trying to find "stuff" as everything is broken down into sectrions (I'm not complaining about that cool) but I just cannot find where that particular graphics file is in settings.

So, that's one example where it could be handy to have a built in search.

Yes, I understand what you mean.
It goes without saying that you have to study the programme a little, everything or almost everything is explained in the guides.
If they do not include a search for 'media' entered, you will never have such functionality.
I advise you to read the guides, I don't think that what you are asking for, if they decide to implement it, will be done anytime soon...

With Website X5, you can click on the "Edit" icon (1) in the preview view and switch to edit mode. Here you can mark an object (2) in the content and switch directly to the object (3) to edit it.

I agree 100% when you are on the page, and that works really well.

But what I'm looking for is different.

1/ I have a message when opening a site to edit about a font being missing. Ok, I can try to find the font, but how would I find in the web site were that font is being used? A search box would allow me to find the pages it's used in.

2/ When I was working on the site I used a photograph (123.jpg). I have to replace that file (with 456.jpg).  A search box would allow me to find the page(s) I used the photograph on.

When you go back to a site for updating after a few months, it's hard remembering everything and where it is. All I'm saying is, a search box could help new users in finding settings and old users iwere they hid stuff!

Incomedia would have to program a kind of inventory list with a search function, where which fonts and images are used.

The question is whether this feature makes sense for many users, so that additional programming for Incomedia is worthwhile.

Maybe Incomedia will reply and write if there will be this inventory list in the future or if there is already another way of searching.

Incomedia

Hi Nigel,

by double-clicking on the error/warning description you find in the Website Optimization window, you will be led to the program section where the reported issue is to be found, so you can apply the correction.

Please let me know if I can be of any further help.

Elisa,

Agreed, the Optomization works really well, and it also keeps me honest!

But it doesn't cover for instance trying to find a rouge font. This was self inflicted as I copied and pasted a few pages from my old website (that I was converting over WebSite X5) without first copying to notepad to get rid of any formatting.

I worked for some time on this and when I saw the message the next day I could not remember (I'm old, I have an excuse!) what pages I needed to change.

It would however be kind of nice that on a paste of text with formating (html), to check the font issue and put out a warning or be able to select a supported font.
