XML file problem

I had an error when previewing my site, it started to save then produced an error message that there was fault with the XML file. It continued to show the 'saving' box for about 2 hours so I shut down the programme.
Trying to re-open my project it now says there is a problem opening the project as it is in use or was not shut down properly.
I have tried opening a new project and copying my 'backup' file to the new project (re-naming it as Project as you have advised a previous user) and I now get an error message telling me and error has occurred loading the project [there is an error in XML document (1889560, 46).]
Can you help?

Hi Tony,
first of all thank you for looking through our suggestions and trying them.
You need to look for your backup project and rename it into your project name them simply import it into the program. You mustn't open a new project and copy the file in it. Please try and let me know if the issue is fixed.
Thank you!

Thanks for the reply Samantha. I've renamed the backup.iwprj file as project.iwprj and attempted to import into the program. In the import project dialogue I have selected the path for the linked files to be copied to and navigated to the location of the re-named file but I cannot see it (although I know it's there using explorer).
All I see are the folders for Preview & Upload.
I think I must be mis-interpreting your advice?
Hi Tony,
please try the following: add your project.iwprj+ Preview and Upload in your project folder. You decide your project folder in the ''preferences'' section (option in the bottom left corner of the program window as soon as you open it). WebSite X5 saves it automatically in the following file path C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Incomedia\WebSite X5 v9 - Evolution\. Please add your file here (if you have not changed it) then go forward in the program. You will then be able to find it in your project gallery, below the ''Edit an existing Project'' option.
Hope this helps!

Tried again Samantha putting project.iwprj file, preview folder & Upload folder into a new project location. Again I can only see the Preview & Upload folders when I go to import in the "Edit an existing project" option.
Thank you for trying again but you musn't import it. If the file has been placed in the correct folder, you should find it in your project gallery, you don't have to do anything else. Simply select it from your project gallery and go forward.

Samantha, the project in the new folder (which has the re-named backup.iwprj now called project.iwprj) Gives the error messages, firstly that "Project is in use or has not been closed correctly" then when I click OK it continues for a short while then gives the error messgage "An error ocurred while loading the project" and doesn't get any further than that. My original one still gives the error [there is an error in XML document (1889560, 46).]
Hi Tony,
thank you for trying so hard. I think I need to see your project at this point, please send it to file@answers.websitex5.com and add my name + this post number (30610) so that I may find it more quickly. I will then test it and try to recover it. Please send me your backup file.
Thank you!

I've just sent my backup.iwprj file Samantha (although it's called Project.iwprj now).
Good luck
and thanks again for your help.
Hi Tony!
Thank you, but are you sure you sent it to the correct address? I did not find anything in the inbox... Could you please double check? Please make sure you add my name in the email subject.
Thanks!

Sorry Samantha, looks like it never went. I've just tried to send it again but each time I try I get a system adminstrator message telling me that the file size is too large. My ISP must have a limit on the size of email attachment I can send. My project file is 11.6Mb in size. Is there another way you can suggest that I can get the file to you?
Hi! That's ok, no problem.
Ok, you can upload it on your server if you want then give me the details to download it.
Let me know!

Just sent it zipped this time.
Hi Tony!
Just wanted to let you know that I have received it. I will give it to our technical team and let you know as soon as I have news from them.
Thanks!
Good morning Tony,
I'm very sorry but unfortunately I don't bring good news... Your project has been damaged therefore our technical team is not able to recover it for you.

Thanks very much for trying to help Samantha. It's dissapointing that all I did was preview an update I was trying to append to the site and it took down both the live project and the backup file but I will have to bite the bullet and move on. I do have a backup from my previous version of X5 which I can re-import and convert so I don't have to start completely from scratch again. It will be a long haul though but I will let you know how I get on.
Thanks again for trying.
My pleasure Tony! I'm glad you don't have to start from scratch at least!
Please feel free to write back if you have anymore questions or doubts!
Cheers!
