Products added to database  en

Hello,

So I have set up a shopping cart and linked it to a database. My question however is; if I was to add a new product to the website store, even though I can add new data to the database about the product, would I still need to physically add the product through website x5 client? Or is there a way to simply add products through the database?

Hello Michael

The products is not in a database.

The orders is in a database.

You have to add and edit products via the X5 software, and upload the changes.

Even if the version is called "Professional" it is not - regarding the shopping facilities.

This also means that you can make a simple shop for yourself - but you cannot develop a shop for a customer with this software.

The shopping part of X5 need a rewrite before it can be called "Prodessional", I think.

Kind regards

John S.

Hello Again Michael

X5 is a great tool for creting good websites. You could have the best from different worlds by using the X5 for designing you website(s), and then use some other software for the shop - like OpenCart.

See the list of these paypal-partners.

Kind regards

Thanks for the help, If I was to create a ecommerce site for a client, would I be able to use X5 to create the website and then use a separate feature like opencart to create the products and checkout system?

Thanks,
Michael

Hello Michael

This is exactly what you can do.

X5 is really good at creating good looking websites. And then you can use some other software ( as the free Opencart ) for the shopping part.

All the shopping part has to be in the other software.

You can integrate it via links or via iframes. But all about products, ordering and payment will be in the other system.

You can see an example here : http://c4dshow.com/

Here I have integrated a system (Admidio - a member system) that can take care of who has access to downloads, and keep track of downloaded amounts.

On this page : http://c4dshow.com/3d-figuren.html

you can see the X5 part of it. This page is all made in X5.

If you click on the leftmenu and choose e.g. : http://c4dshow.com/people.html

then you will see a page where the Admidiosystem is shown to the left in an iframe.

When clicking one of the thumbnails, a bigger image is shown in an iframe to the right.

The page is created in X5 but the content comes from another system. You could say that the X5 software is a "container" regarding the downloads.

All the objects is put into the system by the client, without any access to the X5 software.

You could also use iframes for a shopping system, or - maybe better - have a menu item, that when clicked will open the shopping system in a new tab.

Hope you are helped by this

Hi,

If a user could tell us about his experience with Opencart, it will be good.
I feel that it's a bit like choosing to link our site to a Prestashop page, some modules are often paying, isn't it?

I had reported a few months ago that some of e-projects presented into the projects users were made with Prestashop!

Each year we pay a new version because, as John said, we do like WX5 and I would really prefer working with WX5 for graphism and e-shopping, don't you?

Regards,

Danielle

Hello,

I have been busy so only recently had a look at opencart. From what I can see, it is liek you say where they provide certain features and then the community sell extra features. I was hoping for the opencart site to allow you just FTP files over such as HTML or CSS and then just implement the cart system so that I could use WX5 for the design and development but unfortunately from what I can see, this is not the case.

If john knows of anyway to do this on opencart then that would be appreciated but at the moment I'll continue to look into it and see what I can find out.

Michael
