Cannot open my project with new installation  en

I accidently destroyed my old installation, then downloaded and installed a new test installation of website X5, hoping that I would be asked for my licence key, which didn't happen. So I couldn't enter my old licence key. Still, the test installation started working without the licence key.

When I tried to open my old project in the test installation, my old project wasn't shown. I didn't see an option to search my hard disc to find my project. How can I see my project with the new test installation? I tried the import function, but it said it wouldn't work with the test installation. It suggested to install the X5pro installation. I tried that, but it only offered me to expensively BUY a new version, which I cannot afford.

I already paid for my old key - how can I work on my old project with the new test version, entering my old licence key? An idea, anybody?

Hi Maria,

Firstly, goto your account/profile page > download. Here you should find all versions available on your licence.

Now, to import back into WX5, you will a .iwzip file (created with ‘export’ in Step 5). If you did not backup to iwzip, I don’t think you can get your project back. In this case, you will probably need to create a new project, using your current host as the content provider (copy/paste).

I hope that this helps.

Hi Andy, thanks for telling me - I am really flabbergasted. I never saw a reason to export my website - but saving it seems to be one. Why didn't they not just call it that: save. And why for heaven's sake are my files not there any more when I unistall this software? This is incredible! If I uninstall a microsoft product, my data are still there, but they aren't with WX5 - so the WX5 software apparently has destroyed my work! That was quite a big website! This indeed is hard to believe and I am really shocked to find my whole website gone. I feel quite resentful buying another license of this software. Anyway, still: thanks for telling me.

Your projects is probably still there.

Find the location of your projects by using Windows file explorer.

When you have found them, then set your X5 installation according to that.

You find the settings here:

When you make a new installation the destination for projects is set to the standard. This can sometimes also happen by an update.

You change the setting to where your projects is located (I suggest that)

OR

You copy the projects to the location already set for X5.

The first thing you should do: Locate the project(s). This should be done before you start on something else.

Don't start on new projects before you have the correct settings to your projects. If you dont do this, you will have projects on more than one location, and you can only have a setting in X5 for one location for the projects.

Hope you understand what I try to tell. Your projects are still on your local computer - you just have to locate them and correct the setting in X5.

Hi John, yes, you are right, my project is still there. I found it by searching for one of the page names of my website. Whew! That was good luck (or rather: your good hint). What didn't work was altering the settings to the directory. When I did that, the project didn't become visible. What did work was copying the project to the directory that the original settings of the test version were set to. Still, the software couldn't open the project, because it had been created by a sotware version  newer than the test version. Well, I guess I will be able to handle that problem now. Thanks a lot for your advice.
