I understand that website x has no database like joomla or wordpress.i made a government site in joomla and i want to redesign it in websitex.i saw on data management an option to add a database.does this mean that i can create my database with my host and link it with the website i made with website x 5?can it possibly handle many files like before with joomla and its database?thanks

Hello Jenny,
You can use WebSite X5 as an easy to use tool for designing a good-looking frontend for your database driven site. However, the backend would need to be coded manually for the most part. WebSite X5 does not currently have many built-in user controls for database manipulation. You would require a good working knowledge of PHP and MySQL. You can then incorporate your scripts using the HTML/Widget Objects, etc.
It is fairly straightforward to get X5 to write to a database using the Email Form Object. However, querying the database and displaying specific results requires manual coding... for the time-being, at least!
Kind regards,
Paul

o i see. Thanks Paul I hope website x will have these user control features in the future.
But Paul Im thinking of incorporating the sitecake editor, just a bit of code.So its not a problem with the user to edit and add articles. My problem now is,a government site has lots of files on it and keeps updating/adding every now and then.I'm afraid that website x cant handle this kind of site because it has no database. Is it possible for me to create a database on my cpanel with my host and if ill link my project made with website x to that database i created, will all the files be stored in to that database i created?thank you so much Paul
Yes, you can create a database using cPanel and WebSite X5 will be able to write to it, but at present only using fields which you create in the Email Form Object.
However, database support within WebSite X5 is expanding and improving all the time, and hopefully it won't be too long before extra tools are added to store, query, manipulate and display data
I do think that at the moment you might struggle to support a database driven site using WebSite X5 alone. There would be a lot of manual coding and scripting required, unless you simply wanted to dump data to a database, without editing it.
Sorry I can't be more constructive, Jenny.
Best regards,
Paul
