Uploading pictures in .jpg are converted to png!

When I upload pictures in a jpg-format in a gallery, I am suprised that they are changed in a png-format. This is very strange. The png-pictures are using much more kb than jpg-pictures. Is there a way to resolve this problem?

Are these plain images which you have inserted in the Gallery, or are they processed in some way? Watermarks, effects, masks, etc.
The .jpg format does not support transparency, which could be why you see your files in .png format on the server.
If you add basic, unedited images to the Gallery Object then they will remain in .jpg format.
