Importing projects written in Evolution 9 to Evolution 11

When I import my website written in Evolution 9 into Evolution 11 everything transfers except for the images and pdf files - this is not what I expected and will create a lot of work. Please can you tell me if this is supposed to happen.

To sum up, from version 10 onwards external files are copied to an internal library within WebSite X5, which makes exporting/importing even easier.
When exporting from version 9, however, WebSite X5 may have difficulty in finding images and/or PDFs, dependent on the issues described in that thread.

Have read the thread and tried keeping CTRL pressed whilst using Preview on the Evolution 9 version of the site within Evolution 9 program but all this does is to randomly remove some of the image files and pdf files.
What else can I do?

If any images and/or PDFs are missing when doing a CTRL/Preview in Evolution 9, then this suggests that the original paths to the images/PDF files are no longer valid. They must have been moved from their original location when you first linked to them within WebSite X5.
There is only one solution in that case, which is to verify the current location of the missing images/PDFs and adjust the path to them accordingly in WebSite X5.
Once all the files appear correctly when doing a CTRL/Preview in version 9, then you can export your project as an IWZIP file (in Step 5) which can be imported into version 11.
From that point on WebSite X5 will store any locally acquired files within its own internal library.

That worked for the images but not for the PDF files - which I have recovered manually. It did not work for .doc or .xls files which Evolution 11 does not seem to accept. Can you advise please.

Do you get any error message when you try to add these?

when I load the file (.doc or .xls) and use Preview to check I am taken back to the file location on my PC. I expected the file to simply open up like the PDF files or to be asked to download the file in order to use MS Office to open the file.
There are no error messages.

The location window you see is to save the file on your computer since the preview brosser is not able to load these files without any plugin installed.
This is the behaviour only of the preview browser. Once exported you will have the optiosn to open it if the borwser has the plugin installed to view these files or to download them.

Are documents attached to locked pages visible to search engines? A PDF document which we publish within a locked page has been found by Google - should that happen?

the locked pages cannot be read by search engines so they will not know if there are any files linked on them but if you write the link to one of these files on a public page or someone knows the exact URL then the file can be accessed.
The program protects the content on the page but to block the access to a file this needs to be done serverside since the html code cannot protect a file or a folder online, only the html pages.
If the file has been found probably it has been shared the ulr to the file somewhere and now it has been indexed. You can ask google to remove it or change the filename so it cannot be accessed anymore without knowing the new name.
