I have inserted the full google verification code (starting with meta name= etc)into the Statistics,SEO and Code page in the 'Verification metatag for Google Search Console'.But every time I have tested the website live the code is the first thing to pop up which does not look good. How can I hide it from view?

Any suggestions gratefully appreciated

Use the correct code from google for the option you use it in, there are more to choose from.

In the verification code from google it shoulld look like this:

<meta name="google-site-verification"content="your_code" />

Then it should work

Best Regards

Are you sure you are uploading to correct folder?

If so, refresh the memory of your browser because this can be used and the browser will not see changes if these are made in a very short time period.

So check site again and press F5 or better ctrl-F5 in your browser, then check again for changes.

If you upload your site to the webspace you hire from your webhosting you have there -like on your pc- also folders. If you upload to the wrong one you will never see changes. So be sure you upload to the correct folder if you are not sure then your webhosting shoould have a faq on that where you can see what the correct folder must be.

Another thing that could cause this is if you upload, and change and upload again. Normaly your browser will know that you have visited the wesbite earlyer and to speed thing up it will use stored information on your pc to show you the webpage. Your browser does not know hat you have changed things. When the memory of the browser is too old it will view the site from the code that is on internet and not anymore from pc memory.

So if you make websites and make changes in a short time it's best to press F5 (or ctrl-F5) so the browser wll know that he needs to reload from website code and not from memory data.

Hope this helps, let me know how thinks work out.

Hi Brigid & Andre,

Is this website? http://www.brigidmcguire.com/index.html

I see this on the source code :

  1. <meta name="google-site-verification" content="zNLng0mWgmGs3Fe5uwSRKPH2Ro4a-c7aY_5SoV_PKFw" />
  2. google-site-verification: google2f7b32a585e1e40d.html
  3. google-site-verification: googlec51bb5902bd8f213.html
  4. <meta name="google-site-verification" content="J8hs5K7WPg73Y2ewQoIkWANN0fWJRuIDnzT6RpYwmW4" />

Too much no?
