How to make lasting changes to the index.css of a template  en

I am customizing the "multi-purpose single page" template Home page.

The colors of the index page can be changed in the index.css files found in  pcss folder (one in "upload" and one in "preview" folder). I make the changes by opening the files in "Brackets" and saving them back after the changes.

After changing the rgba color numbers everything looks great as expected. (colors changed as per my requirement)

Until I restart the program! Then everything is back as it was. The index.css file seem to reset to its original state.

My question is: how can I avoid this resetting and make the changes permanent.

Help!

Jacques

Hello Jaques,

My question is, why do you make the changes from the css file instead of making them from the configuration options that the program brings?

If you want you can send us a screenshot of the things you are changing the color with CSS and maybe we can help you know where you can change them through the program options.

regards

Carlos A.

Hello Carlos,

Thank you for your response. I tried first from the confuguration options (as I do whenever possible). But can´t find these particular objects in the configuration option. See attachment. The text on the color bar come in flying from the right. The colors do not match the color of my header picture and colors on other pages.

I found also that by changing the colors in the CSS file they change in all the pages where they are used. This is what I want. Could not find how to change them in the confuguration options either. Maybe this particular template (one page) is a bit odd compared to the others?

Hi Jacques

it is not guaranteed that every single aspect of the website which gets generated will be fully customizable directly through the UI, but if you wish to apply edits via code to the generated website, you need to do it in the right places. If you modify the files directly, these will be reset next time you launch the software or as soon as the software applies any kind of edit on that file.

Step 1 -> Analytics, Code and SEO -> Expert is a good place where to place custom CSS code.

You can also place them on single pages at Step 3 -> Page properties -> Expert or inside HTML code in pages

Try this out and see if it works alright for you

Thank you

Stefano

Dear Stefano and Aleksej,

I decided to start with a blank site and do everything from scratch. The templates are to restictive for what I need. E.g. I don´t want the header picture to appear on all pages. I want different "header" pictures for each pages. The only way to do this effectively seems to be by coding with HTML and CSS. Furhtermore I use lots of SVG graphics (logo etc.) since jpg and png lack sharpness (at least I could not get them crisp). With all the nice objects available I can create nice effects as well.

Maybe I am missing a few points and working it all out with the template is possible. If so please let me know. I am still learning. I bought about 6 templates hoping to be able to customize  at least one per my requirement.

Thank you for your suggestions and help.

Jacques

Try to hide different objects on different pages by adding CSS code to these pages.

your-css-suffix {
display: none;
}

Thanks Aleksej.

By the way, do you know the meaning of the combination #im that most CSS lines in Website X5 start with. I could not find it in W3 CSS conventions. It may be a stupid question but I rather ask than keep puzzling about it.

"Thanks Aleksej." - It's my pleasure.

"By the way, do you know the meaning of the combination #im that most CSS lines in Website X5 start with" - I never thought about it. Maybe it means "IncoMedia". smile
