Your projects is maybe not located on the defaiult location.

Did the loss of projects happen sometime after or is the problem related?

Hi Mandar, 

as John suggested, please look for the project folder on your PC, then make sure that the path which is set on the Preferences window corresponds to the path the project folder is saved on.

I'll check as per your suggestion. 

But due to an urgency, I made 2 projects with another location (i.e. on D/). Now is there any way to manage folders on both locations? If yes, please guide.

Move the old folders to the current location - or change the location back to the old location where it originally was, and then copy the 2 new projects(folders) to that location. When you see both the old projects and the 2 new projects in X5, then you can delete the 2 folders you copied from.
