My hard drived crashed, and is not recoverable.  All website  images and all files from creator X5Evo(2021.5.7) including all *.iwizip,  are gone.  I've been managing a Train club website since 2014 using an earlier verision of X5 and now this current one.  (www.oregonelectricogaugers.com)

The hard drive litterally fell off a small shelf on to the desk and a local expert in hard drive recovery could not clone it.  His suggestion was to send it to a compay that can remove the disc.... and clone/copy.  cost $1800 to $3,000 !)

I used FileZilla to move the site's files back to my PC, but X5 cannot read them.

I asked my provider if they could help, but they have no expertise.

One Option :  Create a "new domain" and make a new set of pages with X5, that also  links to the old site.  However that would double the cost of the club's website to $200, and we wold rather not spend that much every year, if there is another way.

I have started a "new project".   I recreated our "index" page with links to the other webpages. This is not the "internal" menu that X5 creates, but simply uses the URL's of each page.   I have all the ftp parameters I used to set up the original site .

My quesitons:  Will X5 simply replace the original "index" with the new "index" and leave all the other pages alone.?

If I add New pages to my project, will they interfere with current pages?

I intend to replace the few pages I update regualrly, using X5's internal menu and simply remove the old links.  As we add new member photos, I will simply create new pages, rather than add to the current ones.

Thank you in advance.  Richard Meneghelli, Corvallis Oregon.

Hello. If you don't find the site project, then you need to re-create the entire site.
If you create only separate pages and upload them to a server with an existing site, this can lead to various problems.

Richard, you have my sympathies. I have (in the past) had success retrieving files from hard drives which were extensively physically damaged.

You say you held iwzip files of the project? If so please try one or a number of recovery tools. I have had success with "getdataback" (https://runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm or https://getdataback.en.softonic.com/?ex=DINS-635.3) but there are many others (some which have little or no cost) like easus. If the software offers a trial (getdataback does), what have you got to lose?

A good opportunity for a redesign.

At WebSite X5, choose a nice (free) template and create the sitemap.

Then drag the objects you want into the grid on each side. The downloaded images and texts can be inserted here (if necessary, remove the text formatting using the Windows editor).

Thank you all for your suggestions . By the way, I forgot that I had posted previous questions, and received good advice... Thank you again for that.

Aleksej H. What kind of "various problems" would happen...?  I have 13 pages from as far back as 2014.  The photos I used were on the crashed drive, also.   ( I also lost hundreds of family photos from as far back as 2004.) I was hoping to avoid re-creating , as I can only use the photos that I can download back from the site.  Why wouldn't X5 simply replace the old index with the new one.?

Esahc ..   The tech that i took the crashed drive to has the latest hardware/software in his shop.  He said the more he tried to clone  the drive, the more degraded the info would become.  He couldn't actually 'see" what was on it.  His solution was to send it to a recovery lab that has a "clean room", that could dismantle the drive and actulaly lift the info from the disc.... at a prohibitive cost.

Daniel W. As I said to Aleksej, the photos are seveal years old and provide memories to our members, many who are in their 80's.   I no longer have the originals that were on the drive.  However, what both of you have suggested is what I was hoping to avoid, if I could simply overwrite the index page giving me access to the rest of the site and maybe creating new content linked to the new index page too.

As my son said.... I should be pragmatic, what if I had lost them in a fire?  God forbid.  But such is life.. I will start to rebuild

Complete websites can be downloaded from the Internet with the free program HTTrack, see

You can also use it to download your own websites and their content.

However, the downloaded website can no longer be edited with WebSite X5, but all content is available on the hard disk.

With the content of the downloaded website, the new project to be created in WebSite X5 can be filled with the old content.

You can also download your own website with an FTP program, e.g.

FileZilla >> https://filezilla-project.org/

The HTTrack program is of particular interest if you want to download complete websites that were created with a CMS or similar PHP scripts.

As a side note: 5 years ago I used HTTrack to convert my old web catalog PHP script website into an HTML archive page because there were no more script updates and I wanted to keep the website online without user entries.

I recommend downloading all the images you need from the hosting and making a new site from scratch. Or almost from scratch. You can use existing texts and other content.

Thank you all for the great advice...  No easy fix, but it was not expected. Right now, I'm crawling out from taxes.... and trying to get yard work and help wife with planting prep... but Oregon has plenty of rainy days, and I'll work on the website....  Our club doesn't have another activity where we set up until the end of June... so I have some time.

I did suspect I would have to rebuild, and am looking forward to trying  the programs that download the site so I can use peices to copy/paste to  a new x5 rebuild.

Thanks again....  Make a good day.  Always TRAINing.  Always Learning.  Ricihard.
