Why does the program record what usb drives I have attached to the computer when I design?

I started the program up today without the usb drive and got an endless supply of errors for not being able to find \Device\Harddisk\DR1.

I had to Google to find out what that error meant.

Should the program not be just concerned with the design folder and nothing else?
