Generic error during purchase

How do you access the database and link it to the shopping cart. Ive selected the shopping cart, send orders, send to a database. The database exists on the server, has permissions set for full access. There is a folder named in the send order which has 777 permission set on the server.. The database passes all the tests on the online control panel(website test).
Ive set up the webstats option with no issues, so why does the cart present a "Generic error" when clciking the buy now button.?
