Continuation of previous discussion attempt from Hugh Beach  en

Part two of discussion started by Hugh Beach:

My first message was sent before I was ready, since it refused to let me add another picture,  so here it is.

Note that it refers to my site on: english.farskinnsfallar.se

This is where I have stored my English version in a subdomain of farskinnsfallar.se which contains the main Swedish site.

Despite weeks of trying to understand the instructions in the manual (where it says it is all so simple!),  I have still been unable to insert language switching links on each site (under appropriate small English and Swedish flags).  Can you help me do this?  Since I cannot edit any templates, it seems impossible.

Hugh, in the picture provided, to make the menu appear only on one line, make the menu buttons smaller.

Step 2 Template, Customisation, Main Menu. You can reduce the width as shown.

If the number of menu items, and their length, precludes making the button narrower, you can always go back and make the page wider :-)

BTW, to include multiple images, the easiest way is to use the snipping tool (or some other program for screen capture), copy and paste directly into your post, then resize as necessary.

As for multiple language select, here you have me at a disadvantage because I have never needed this feature, but it appears you have 2 websites. Add a small pic of the swedish flag to the header, and another pic of an english flag by dragging the image icon into the header. Double click on it when it is there and browse the web or your pc for the flags you want.

Once you have select the flag image, click on link

Once you have placed the flag, click on the link icon, then write the full address of your site.

eg. http://english.farskinnsfallar.se

Do this for each and the user can readily switch by clicking the appropriate flag in the header.

See John's post. . . . .

Hello Hugh

The simplest way is to add two flags ( as images - it could also just be a text )  to the header-template. ( 1 - template customization - header ) see attachment.

You do this on both english.farskinnsfallar.se and farskinnsfallar.se

On the English site you have no link for the english flag, but a link on swedish flag that links to farskinnsfallar.se

On the Swedish site you have no link for the swedish flag, but a link on the English flag that links to english.farskinnsfallar.se

This was the simple version - here you always start on the home-page when shifting language.

A more advanced way could be to shift language and staying on the same page but now with another language.

This is possible as you have version 12 - this is not possible in V 13.

You use the slideshow. ( the option to choose which page to be viewed on is removed in v 13 - pity)

if you want different links in different pages in the header, what you can do is insert in the header the slideshow, repeat the pictures for each page, select in which page you want the picture to appear, set a different link for each picture.

In this way, the picture at your page 4 will open just another page 4, in another language.

It seems you have few pages and only two languages. In this case I will suggest you use the solution with the slideshow.

With more languages and many pages it can be very troublesome.

Hope this helps you.

Kind regards

John S.

Hello again Hugh

I can see that your menu does not fit in your layout. Again - as you have the V 12, you are able to have the menus in more than one line. See an example of this here : http://www.brammingegnsmuseum.dk/

And here : http://www.calendarforum.dk/index.html

Even when using the blank template, you can use the flag for the language - I will suggest to use a template and customize it ( height of the menu section ) to your needs..

Kind regards

John S.

Hello Hugh,

please follow Esahc's and John's suggestions: if you reduce the width on Step 1 - General Settings > Default Template > Template Style >Main Menu Style, the menu will be displayed on the same line.

In the other post, you mentioned having difficulties taking away the page title, please go to Step 1 - General Settings > Default Template > Template Style >Page Menu Style and take away the tick for the option Show Page Menu

Finally, as to the multi-language website, please have a look at this guide: http://help.websitex5.com/en/v12/pro/es_lingue.htm?zoom_highlightsub=multi%2Blanguage

Please let me know if you need anything. I wish you a lovely day.

Thanks all for your attempts to help.  I have tried it all without success.  For starters, I see no way of getting to the page @Esathc sent showing MAIN MENU STYLE.  I am able to get to a page called Main Template Structure after "backing" to it from the "home" page listing but I do not know if I should be working from within a MAIN TEMPLATE or a RESPONSIVE TEMPLATE page.  (I want my page to be "responsive" for different devices.)  I keep trying to increase the width of the horizontal bar, but it is set unchangeable at 960.  I see that I can change the height of the bar, and I have done so, but it does not at all show any change when I look at preview.

Nor can I locate anything like a PAGE MENU STYLE (in order to take away the tick in the SHOW PAGE MENU option.  I can't even get to the GENERAL SETTINGS to reach the DEFAULT TEMPLATE to reach the TEMPLATE STYLE.

I really regret getting into this program, but I have already invested so much time, I don't want to throw in the towel now when only some minor problems are holding it back.  Is anyone willing to help via Skype or give me a number I can call so as not to cause others to incur expense?

Your helpfulness is my only hope.  Best, Hugh

Hello Hugh,

if you want a responsive website, the hamburger menu will necessary appear in lower resolution to avoid display errors.

As to the other issue, why don't you post some screenshots? It would be very helpful to see exactly what the problem is and in this way I can provide you with further specific help.

Thank you! I'm looking forward your reply.
