I am using the latest V9 version and have the same issue as reported in the topic "Old image files". So this has not been fixed yet.
I created a new project from scratch, added some images (to text-block elements) and removed them again. Soon I saw that those old images are still exported to the preview folder (even after deletion). If I re-add the images, the are exported with a postfix and the original image is exported as well. So e.g. "MyImage.jpg" and "MyImage-1234.jpg".
I unzipped the project and looked at the XML. The <FileManagerItem> elements for the old images are still there!
So it looks V9 has an issue with the project cleanup. It does not properly remove image resources.

maybe you get your old images beacuse of the cache of the software, please try to open the preview of your site keeping the CTRL key pressed, it will take a while for WebsiteX5 to generate again every elements of your site from scratch but you should get the updated version of everything, included your images.
Don't forget to save your project before or after having exported it, otherwise WebsiteX5 doesn't know you finished with your modifications and doesn't store them.

What exactly doest the CTRL-key + preview do? Re-generate the preview-folder?

Anyway, CTRL+Preview does not help.
The issue can easily be reproduced by adding a text-object to a page and the repeatedly adding an image, previewing and deleting it again (inside the text object)

the CTRL + preview is used to clear the cache of WebsiteX5, in this way you are sure to get the most up to date version of your project. If you get old images after the exportation maybe you still have some references to these images somewhere (perhaps some links in some text object).

Have you been able to reproduce the issue? I changed some images again that were embedded in text objects - and voila -> all the old ones are exported and even uploaded to my website.
And NO the are definitely not referenced anymore.
I had to remove them again by modifying the project xml and also in there, there wer NO references!

I tried but I don't have this problem, if this happens even with new projects maybe you can try to uninstall the software and install it again, install it from the setup of the up to date version of WebsiteX5 you can download from the download section of your profile here on answers.

Unfortunately it did not help.
I was able to track down the problem to a specific situation: When you delete an image from the text-object and click preview without saving, sometimes the image remains in the preview folder. If you add the same image again (or one with the same name) you suddenly have two images in the preview and also in the export.

did you have this problem only if you export a project that was not previously saved? This is because WebsiteX5 couldn't delete the old files beacause it doesn't know that these files are actually the old version.
If after saving the project everything goes smoothly, then this is the correct behaviour.
