Congratulations on choosing WebSite X5 Professional 11

If you want the menu buttons to link to individual pages customised for each language then proceed as follows:

  1. For each flag/language combination, create a new 'Level' in the sitemap in Step 2.  Don't be tempted to create 'pages' instead...  you must use 'levels'
  2. Edit the properties of each level by clicking on the 'Properties' button in the right-hand side of the sitemap screen.  In the new window which opens you can add the country flags as images under Options > Icon for the menu item
  3. On the same screen, set the 'Link to be executed on item click' to point to the appropriate 'Website page' within your project

However, if instead you wish the flags to direct the user to a global version of your website with all pages in the language of his/her choice, then you would be better following the instructions here instead:

Hope that helps.

Kind regards,

Paul

Hello Gerard,

Yes the flags can also be put in the menu bar by going in step 1 - template style - main menu style by adding a custom html code to display the flags and the link to the pages.

The suggestion Paul wrote you is easier since it does not require any use of custom html code and you can achieve the same result.

Many thanks!

Hello Paul, Claudio, thnx for the explanation, question: i want to add the flags in the menu bar as Paul suggested (first option). I made the levels, but: 1. the level button is still in the menu bar, is the normal or can i make it invisible so i only see the flag itself ? I want to make 4 languages (NL, UK, DE, FR) and i want to put them to the right of the menu bar. I hope you can help me?

Best regards, Gerard

Hello Gerard,

The button will remain visible. What you can do is create a flag image as the size of the button so it convers all and remove the name of the level in step 2.

Otherwise you need to set all the menu buttons settings in step 1 - template style - main menu to transparent so these will have not a color.

Many thanks!

Hello Gerard,

Unfortunately I cannot help you with custom HTML code. You need to add the code to show the 3 images and on each one add a link to the correct page.

I would suggest you to upload the images manually online with an external FTP client and then add the link to these files so it will be easier to find them for the other project since the link to the file remains always the same.

Many thanks!
