Version 9 to 10 upgrade-won't import-what to do?

Created a website using version 9, just purchased version 10 download from staples and tried to iimport the saved .iwzip but a message keeps coming up saying the "Project cannot be opened because it was created with a version prior to version 10 of WebSite X5"
How is a prior version imported, or are we forever stuck with whatever version we started with?
600 page site so far....and a few thousand more still to add.
Can this update import procedure be done with this program or is a different one needed?
Any help & info greatly appreciated.

Which edition of version 9 did you have? Compact, Evolution, etc.

Your Home edition of version 10 will not be able to open any project created in the more advanced versions of series 9, as there is simply no support in the program code for the additional features.
