Activation key

I installed the program and was told that I needed to start the program to get the instructions to activate it.
The instructions given by the site, that announce this software was available for free, said that I would have to register myself with this site to get the activation key.
Which I did and I never got the activation key.
So what's up?

No error code and the site that told you about this freeby was either SharewareOnSale or Bit du Jour. Sorry if I don't remember which one.
