Drop Down/Page Menu  en

Author: Nigel W.

I have a problem about "navigation" between the main drop down menus and consequent page menus when I have so many main menu items under one category that I have to create sub-folders in order for all the "child" topics to be displayed by visitors.

This, of course, means that should a visitor choose an item from a main drop down menu sub-folder, the page menu only shows that group of topics under that sub-folder.

Is there a work around this?

It would be more useful if ALL the sub folders were shown on the page menu.

What tends to happen is that psychologically a visitor having opted for an item in a main menu sub-folder and presented with only that sub folder page contents will not usually go back to the main menu to choose another item from the same menu item.

This bears out in my statistics...there is this particular trend.

Happy New Year,

Nigel

Hi Nigel

show me a live example, I might be able to find a way around it, but I need to fully understand what you are asking for, live example would help me to see what exactly going on.

Hi there Anthony. Thanks for your response.

The best thing is if you just look through my website....

http://www.hampsteadheath.net

eg 1. Go to "PAINTINGS", click on "Hampstead School Of Art"...the resulting page menu (LHS) doesn't show all the topics "HEATH","HAMPSTEAD","HIGHGATE" paintings. It jumps from "School Of Art" to "John Constable"

eg 2. Clicking on anything in main menu:"Vintage Hampstead & Highgate", only "Highgate" or "Hampstead" expands into the LHS page menu.

eg 3. Clicking on any of the "Photos and Videos", only one section is expanded on the LHS page menu. eg "Autumn", if clicking on any autumn sub topic from the main menu.

IF you click on "HAMPSTEAD", ALL the sub-categories are shown on the LHS menu....this is how I want all Main Menu buttons to behave.

I'm sure I must be ovelooking something but, unless it is the limitation of drop down size, I can't work it out...lol!

Best,

Nigel

I see what you mean, its strange that some of them shows just fine and some of them not.

Honestly I can not tell whats going on unless you send me your project file, so I would be able to open it up and see whats going on behind the scene.

you would be able to find my contact info from any of my websites listed below.

Hello Nigel,

the page menu shows only the pages present in this level. If you added other levels inside these will not be present in the page menu because it is intended only for pages.

At the moment there is no option to show also levels in the page menu.

Many thanks!

Hi Claudio...

If you hover over "Kenwood House", then click "Travel to Kenwood House", the page menu shows ALL the folders and single pages.

However, if you click on "Photos and Videos" and then "Heath Skies", this doesn't happen.

It should show all the folders at that level as does "Kenwood House".

That's my problem.

Hello Nigel,

On Kennwood house these appears because you added on the level also the link to a page so it is seems as level and page.

On photos and videos the levels contains only the subpages but the levels itself doesn't are linked to a page.

You need to create pages and hide them and then in the level properties link the levels to the according page so it appears in the page menu.

Many thanks!

Ah Ha!

Just linked each subfolder to a page on the Map Creation and they now appear in the Page Menu.

Fascinating stuff.

Just shows how many hidden depths there are to this learning curve.

Thanks,

Nigel

Hi Claudio...

I've sort of got the idea now BUT placing a dummy hidden page above Vintage Hampstead and Highgate folders worked ok on Preview but NOT when published.

I ended up creating a visible page which I don't really want to make both folders show in the Page Menu.

Best,

Nigel

Hello Nigel,

You need to remove in the 2 levels in the properties the link to the hidden pages so these will not appear in the page menu.

Many thanks!

Hello Nigel,

Go to step 2 and then select the 2 levels you don't wont to appear in the page menu and open the properties.

In the link option and remove the link to the page to no link and then export it again.

Many thanks!

We have a misunderstanding.

I want the two folders to appear on the Page Menu!

Your earlier suggestion that I create an hidden page on the same level of the two folders only works in PREVIEW. When I exported the two folders didn't appear on the Page Menu unless, as I have done, make a single visible page.

Cheers,

Nigel
