Hi...

I am having problems with a private members' page.

I had it all working before but seem to have deleted everything so I am trying again.

FIRSTLY, there doesn't seem to be a "Login Page" created in the Map

I want http://www.hampsteadheath/secret-garden.html to be accessed by a simple password and user id which I had set up as being found by answering two clues which reveal user id and password and hence the visitor can then view the page.

It used to be "imlogin.php" that visitors were taken to. Now, it seems as though the programme has created "secret-garden.php" and there is just a blank page when viewed.

Would you mind taking me through the process of creating this setup again, please.

I tried following the "HELP" but I am wondering if that is out-of-date.

I created a "new user 1" with the user id and password required to open the page but I am puzzled.

Thanks

Nigel

Nigel,

Have you added groups/users within 'access management' under section 4 'Advanced Settings'?

Have you set the page in question as 'Locked' under section 2 'Map Creation' by clicking on the small icon (with padlock) within the menu list at the top of the page and set which groups/users can access this page?

Normally, these are the 2 sections required!

Regards,

PJ D.

Hi PJD...

Yes. In section 4, I have created a new group "public" and "anybody" as the user. I set entrance page as "Home"

In section 2, I have ticked both "public" and "anybody" and it is"locked visible".

Still no "Login Page"

Still blank "secret-garden.php" instead of what I presume should be "secret-garden.html

Strange!

I dont have access to my pc right now, however, have you added a logon script to your homepage e.g. adding a field and adding the logon script to this field?

Hi PJD...

I don't understand.

No...not as far as I know.

It makes no mention of this in any of the HELP files.

I carried the "login" system all the way from v10 to the upgrade of v11, "imlogin.php" and "secret-garden.php" are created by the programme on my server (these have the recent dates). I don't understand where "secret-garden.html" has got to. It is shown in the directories on my PC.

Thanks

I have setup a dummy site to show that it works!

Have a look here: http://vilo.homepage.t-online.de

You will see the login box featuring username and password.

Your username and password will access the secret garden hidden page.

I have also created a downloads page: http://vilo.homepage.t-online.de/downloads.html

Where you can download a screenshot guide showing the steps

PJ D

Hi PJD...

What a generous use of your time in showing me this example. I am sure that this will be useful for me when I start to have some private areas for guest writers, etc.

However, this is not what I'm currently trying to do.

I am using the user id and password private area system that should occur with the present software in order to provide a puzzle for kids visiting the site.

When they clicked on "secret garden" up came the user id/password form with comments. I used the user id "heath" and the password "234" so, if you're following me, and my comments were eg "wild waste ground" for user id and something they could easily find out that added up to "234". They could then see the "secret garden" page.

I can't seem to be able to do this now and I should be able to so I guess I must wait for Incomedia to comment.

My grateful thanks,

Nigel

Nigel,

Have a look at this example: http://eezymail.com/secret-garden-1.html

Username and password are as you previously mentioned.

I was playing around on my t-online server, and when I downgraded the php5 to php4, I was getting a blank page, however the package on this account is very limited, and I could not run the login page and get it to work properly.

However the godaddy server works fine.

PJ D.

Weird! Weird! Weird!

I had a long long "publish" (I have this on another thread) which has just finished and low-and-behold the protected set-up is now working!

http://www.hampsteadheath.net/

Do you know what?

I think that my system must be saving the entry information and that's why I'm getting the secret-garden page without the system asking for the password details. (I use Kaspersky Internet Protection" which kicks in sometimes.

This may have been my problem all along...gosh!

See if you receive the password form as a first time user, since my "publish" if you wouldn't mind, then we can close this issue off.

BUT, the blank page was there before this "publish" so there had been a problem, I feel.

My thanks PJD,

Nigel

Nigel,

The login page does not appear in internet explorer, chrome and firefox.

I have only ever used the login for a private area, which I set as a separate page.

Surely you must need to activate the login somewhere else within the software.

How wher you doing this before?

Regards,

PJ

Ok...now I notice that "secret-garden.html" was uploaded when I was fiddling around with this problem yesterday. I HAVE NOW DELETED IT from the server and I am still getting "ImLogon.php". I fill it in and I am directed to the correct "secret-garden.php". SEE IF YOU CAN NOW RECEIVE IT?

(I tried ALL those browsers and it works for me both with "secret-garden.html" on the server and without.)

My "private area" is set for "anybody" with user id - heath;pass - 234 and set to entry "HOME" page. RThe welcome message is "To enter The Secret Garden, you have to solve the following clues:-
Your user name = "a shrubland habitat found mainly on low quality acidic soils, and characterised by open, low growing woody vegetation." (5 letters, lower case)
The password is the sum of the numbers that represent a bus route to Hampstead and a bus route that goes past Kenwood House!
Good Luck!"

I note from my latest stats that THREE people reach "ImLogin.php" but there is no follow up with "secret-garden.php" so maybe they're just not bothering...lol

IF you are STILL not able to reach these pages, could you please urge Incomedia to intervene?

Thanks PJ,

Nigel

This is very strange. I'll put the "secret-garden.html" back for the time being then until we can get some clarification from Incomedia.

The Home Page login you showed above isn't mentioned in their HELP files and, to be honest, I'd rather not have that on my HOME page as people will run a mile.

I receive over 500 hits a day and, as we're approaching warmer weather, this now rises sharply so I need to try and sort this.

Best,

Nigel

Hello Nigel,

I tested the login page an noticed it has been saved as PHP page and to reach it the correct link is:

http://www.hampsteadheath.net/secret-garden.php

Try to check if the link pointign to it refers to the page with php as extension.

Many thanks!

Hi Claudio.

You see, other people were reaching "secret-garden.html", including moderator PJD. I now notice that "secret-garden.html" is no longer on the server.

Did you reach the login page, then, as I do, Claudio? I assume you did/do.

I wonder if the programme wasn't updating properly on the server.

Over last weekend, I renewed my hosting and I am now on a different server so I hope I may receive better results.

Thanks,

Nigel

Nigel,

Let me try to help out.

I can acces the page Claudio mentionend. I get the login and I can acces the site with the  information that is in this post.

Once you enter the site the data of this page is stored on your pc (cookie) and next time you go to the page it will automaticly goto the page without asking for a login.

Depending on settings of your browser cookie are deleted immadiatly or after closing your browser or after some time, this is user and browser dependend and not something x5 can handle.

If you don't want this behavior then you need to create a html wizard object with a logout option. After loging out you need to use password again.

Login pages are always PHP. it will not work with a html page.

Maybe it was previously created without the login page this would be a html file, after setting a pw it should change to php, propably the html remained on the server, this needs to be deleted manualy after changing. (x5 does not delete files from server).

Both files could give strange behavior. It could also have been the server.

Hope this helps solving the mysteries..... but it is a bit guessing cause it looks good now.

BR André

Thanks Andre!

Yes...it does seem to be solved.

It WAS strange because PJD has been really helpful as you can see above, yet, when I took away the "secret-garden.html" manually, he just got a blank screen.

Anyway...seems like everything is as near solved as can be.

Thanks for your input!

Nigel

Your welcome, and yes PJD was very helpfull and I have read the posts.

Why the blank screen I can't explain, anyway it's in the past.

Let's hope it will stay as it does now cause it all looks like normal behavior.

Thanks, BR Andre
