I believe it would ease to make changes on my websites using my own custom mage template. Therefore, I would like to know how to make my bits and pices forming my custom made template into an iwtpl-file?

After you made your template go in Step 1 Custom Library - and there click on add. Once done your template will appear and then select it and press on Export. This will generate the IWTPL file and allow you to choose where to save it.
