How do I create a User List?  en

1 I have purchased the Website 5 Professional Product and have downloaded the manual as well as having the help system active on line to search through. After creating a basic site http://www.artssupportindex.com/index.html - I wish to create a user list where users can create their own entry and be able to log onto the site. (On the Artist page)

Are there dummy lists I can use and what is the icon/application I use to create the list/table. Any hints on the process or Page references.

I am using HosstClear to host.

Thanks John

Hi Paul

I have been through both those sections - but before getting to that level I am trying to get basics under my belt:

I have set up an email form page which I want to be hidden and linked to the artist page.  Two questions:

i) How do I link from one page of my site (The Artist page) to the hidden emal form page (preferably with an action/radio button live link.

ii) Can I have a field in the email form linking to Paypal with pre-set amounts for various tasks?

(In other words what are the ecommerce alternatives - keeping it simple.

Cheers

John

In WebSite X5 you can create links from either text or images.  I've attached a screenshot illustrating how to create a text link.  Highlight the text you wish to link from, then click the 'hyperlink' icon in the editing toolbar.  In the new window which opens, set the page you wish to link to...  in this case the email form page.  If you lock the email form page then only those users who have login credentials will be able to access it.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this but it sounds like you are describing a PayPal Buy Now button?

If so then the code for this can be added to your email form page in an HTML Code Object  -  N.B. you do not add the code to the Email Form Object...  it must be added in an HTML Code Object.

Hope this helps,

Paul

Paul Thank you - I believe we are making progress.  Your feedback has been helpful.  Hopefully I will soon be on my own two feet and able to navigate with only occasional prompting from support such as yourself.

Two quick queries for you.

1 How do I change the status of a page from under development to normal on-line page. Is there a process I have omitted in adding bits and pieces?

2 What is the process of setting up a listing of data from a database, please?

Thanks as we persevere.

John

1 How do I change the status of a page from under development to normal on-line page.

To mark a page as 'Under construction' you would use the 'Under Construction Page' icon in the editing toolbar in Step 2 Sitemap Creation.  Click on this icon whilst the page you want to mark in this way is highlighted in the sitemap (see the screenshot attached for an illustration)

Pages marked in this way will not be visible online, but you will be able to view them and work on them in the Preview within WebSite X5.

When you are happy with the finished pages, simply reverse the process and click once again on the 'Under Construction Page' icon, which will revert that page back to normal status.  It will then be viewable online following your next upload to the web in Step 5.

2 What is the process of setting up a listing of data from a database, please?

To list data from an existing database you can use the Database Viewer Object, accessed via Step 3 Pages Creation...  click on the 'Manage' icon next to the Objects drop-down menu (see the screenshot attached)...  in the new screen which opens look for 'Database Viewer' and click on it.

The Database Viewer works with MySQL databases only and costs 12 'credits':
