New Privacy Banner  en

Hello,

I am using the new privacy banner (advanced settings/privacy and security), can anyone advise how the cookie here works? I.e. how long does it last, if it is until the user clears cookies, this will not fix the issue as any updates to terms will not be accepted by the user.

Thanks

Hello P.S.,

The privacy cookie has an expiration date of one year from time of setting.

If the user deletes cookies in the meantime then the banner will be displayed again and he/she will have to manually dismiss it once more.

Kind regards,

Paul

Hello Paul,

So if the terms change within a year, this would not work. As the user has agreed to out of date terms. No way of resetting it.

As the webmaster the responsibility would be on yourself to advise visitors of any changes, in the same way that the big sites like Google, eBay, Amazon do.

If you wanted you could easily delete the existing client-side cookie by setting it's expiry to a date in the past.  You would do this in the header of the page advising of the changes in terms and conditions.  The user would then have to acknowledge the privacy message afresh.

Bear in mind that if users block cookies, or if they browse using incognito windows, then the cookies are never set anyway, so it's all a very grey area.
