Title on top of page is wrong  en

I made a copy of a page, then changed the name of the page and the content.  When I preview the page it shows the copied name on the top of the page instead of the name I renamed it to... see the attached file..  The page displayed should say "Teaching Special" but it says "Family Photo Special" (which is the name of the page I copied it from.

Hello William,

Go to Step 2 Map Creation.  Highlight the 'Teaching Special' page by clicking on it once to give it focus, then click on the 'Properties' button on the right-hand side of the screen.

In the new window which opens select the 'General' tab, and enter the correct page name in the 'Extended Page Title' field  -  you will need to tick the checkbox first to make the field active (see the screenshot attached).

Then hold CTRL whilst entering Preview, then upload your project to the server in Step 5.

Kind regards,

Paul

Okay.. got it... Would you say this is a bug?  Seems to me when  you copy a page and then change the name it should also change it in propreties..??

I understand what you're driving at, William, but no, I wouldn't say this was a bug.  I'll try and explain why:

The title which shows up at the top of page content is defined by the value of the 'Extended Page Title' field.  In a new WebSite X5 project this field automatically inherits (duplicates) the value of the page name in the sitemap.  However, other than that initial association they are not linked in any way, and if you look at the 'Extended Page Title' in a default project the field is actually greyed out and has to be activated via the checkbox before the user can make edits.

It's easy to assume that the page title and page name are one and the same in WebSite X5, but that is not the case.  They are two separate entities and editing one should not affect the other, by design.

The following extract from the help file will hopefully make things clearer:

Extended Page Title: give the page a name that differs from the one in the website Map.

The name given to the page in the website's Map is kept in the navigation menu; the Extended Page Title given here is displayed as the page's title when the page is displayed online.
