Transfer software / license to different user?  en

Hi

Being a nice and friendly neighbour, I volunteered to help when two friends took over a small company, a domain name and an existing website. Created, it turned out, in WebSite X5.
I got the original project files and I thought the best way for my friends to maintain and work with the site in the future, would be also to use WebSite X5.

I ended up purchasing Website X5 Evolution 12 (as the Home edition couldn't open the project files) and are now in the process og teaching my friends how to use the program. Luckily, it is a program easily managed for beginners and I am sure it is the right solution for them.

I would like to transfer my purchase - ie my license - to one of my friends when I've finished teaching, so she can take over the project files and maintain their site herself.

So I want to remove the program from my own PC and have it transferred to a new owner (new name and new email-address).

If I change my user profile here to the new owners name and email and pass the license key to her, can she then install the program on her own PC and register it for herself - or does she have to use my email-address to install and activate?

Thanks in advance - and thanks for developing af web-editing tool that allows users to make great websites without having to dig into the code and all the "mumbo-jumbo" ;o)

Regards,

Karsten

Hello Karsten,

Unfortunately, right of use to the software is not transferable as this is expressly prohibited by the licence:

"...No right of ownership is granted to the USER under the LICENCE, only a right of use is granted to the USER. By this LICENCE, the PUBLISHER grants the USER a personal, non-transferable right of use in accordance with the terms stated below..."

However, if your friend purchases her own copy of Evolution 12 then she will be able to import the project you have worked on, if you first export it from WebSite X5 as an IWZIP file (in Step 5) on your own computer.

Please see this extract from the help file for further details:

Kind regards,

Paul
