Repeatedly asked to activate Website X5 Evolution 12
Author: Tom SmithAfter I installed Website X5 it asked me to authorise it (put in the product key etc). Although the account I was using did not have Admin privileges it asked me for the ~Admin password and allowed me to install.
However , next time I booted up the app it asked me to authorise it again. Evey time I tried to use it asked again.
So, I uninstalled and reinstalled using the Admin account. I tested it in the Admin account it did not ask me to re-authorise next time I used the app. However, when I went into the non-priviliged account once again it asked me to autorise - and did so every time #I tried to use it.
Next I used a different priviliged account, booted the app and it asked for authorisation - but only one. Every time after it was fine.
So, for my final test, I gave the unprivileged account Admin priviliges and booted the app. Again it asked for authoridation the first time, but after that it was fine. Then (here's the interesting one) I removed Admin privilges from that account and ytried to use the app again. It was fine!
Conclusion - the installed / authorisation process must be done by a priviliged user. The first time a non-priviliged user access the app they have to be given privileged access first to authorise - each user needs to be separately authorised. Subsequently admin priviliges can be removed from that account.
This is not a normal process for software (think MS Office for example). I suggest the developers take a look at the install procedures for environments with multiple accounts (a) instruct that installation is done from a privileged account and (b) other users do not need Admin rights.
Note, I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium (up to date as of today) and I use multiple accounts on the same computer so that software doesn't get inadvertently installed or changed without my intending to.
Thanks
