Hello I have just developed an X5 web site for our club and I have embedded 3 videos as members movies but when the site is viewed on our test server the videos show a blank panel, for windows explorer/Chrome it tells me that we should install media player plug in and for a firefox viewer it asks for ,Activate VLC web

The plugins appear to be outdated. Here is a link to what Chrome said about it https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/6213033 We cannot expect our visitors to download a workaround. I hope that your guy can give you a solution on what we can do on the server to resolve this issue.

Can you suggest what I may have done wrong

Thanks Stewart Gordon

Hello Stewart,

What format uses these videos? Are these as example .mp4 or .wmv video files?

Is the website online to see it?

Many thanks!

I have tried *.mpg and *.wmv and the same result in the server display.

If I load *.mp4 videos I get the same notice in a preview to say as below

"your browser must support html5 or adobe flash"

Using the *.wmv format works OK in preview only

Your help file suggests that  MOV MP4 wmv etc should all load ok.

Also if I place a video to be displayed and then decide I don't want that one and delete and replace it with another one then the old/wrong file stays and when I do the ftp it then uploads all of them, the right and wrong videos and of course they are very large files.

If I do a save copy of my web site to a flash drive I can see all the videos in the video folder, even those I deleted!

Hello Stewart,

The wmv files needs the windows media player plugin while if you use the mp4 video files these on the browser where there's html5 ideo support will pay natively otherwise these will use the flash plugin.

For the preview proceed in this way to use the mp4 video files:

Open the Preview Browser of WebSite X5 and then visit following link on it:
http://get2.adobe.com/flashplayer/?fpchrome
It will notify you that the plugin is already present but you will need to install it again.
Once done close the preview browser and then restart it again.

About the upload if the no longer used files use on these the rightclick option to delete the file and in this way these will no longer be exported when you upload the project.

Many thanks!

Thanks but I  still find unwanted video files are in the FTP upload even after I delete them from the page I'm building. I can see that they are stil there if I do,  export web site to disk and follow the links to incomedia\websitex5v11 evolution\preview\videos and I see all the unwanted videos that I tried out but deleted. If I remove these files now from this location then go back into my web build x5 and do an ftp to my server site it now only uploads the files I want but if I don't do the above then all the wanted and unwanted files are now uploaded. which takes for ever to do the ftp.

I still can't find the preview browser within X5 . Is it the Preview option at the top of each page. where do I place the above URL.

I get a working video in my pc build site as a wmv but when viewed on the server it still tells me I need to load a player. If I use a mp4 it doesn't play properly even on my pc build. What am I doing wrong, are other people having this problem with embedded video?

Hello Stewart,

The preview folder is only used for the preview and it has no influence on the export. The best way is to use the rightclick option on the filename and then click on delete. As alternative remove the video object and then add a new one on it and test it again to see if then these files are still exported.

you need to start the preview in the program and then in the address bar on the top wherwe you have as example index.html written paste the url I wrote above and then follow the steps.

The WMV videos are not meant for the web since this format is not supported natively by the browsers and it requires additional plugins to display them. Use instead the MP4 video format which is widely supported.

Check for the MP4 video tyo use the h264 video codec when you create the video.

Many thanks!
