X5 Pro 12 issues
Author: Sonia A.Dear Technical services,
Based on recommendations we purchased X5 Evolution 10 to develop our website. Initially all the work related to the website worked smoothly, until the software started crashing while saving the daily work. We switched to X5 Pro 12 and also switched to a new desktop. Initial few days it functioned good and from yesterday the program started to crash while saving the work or it takes 20 to 30 mins just to save small changes.
This issues has delayed the launch of our website and we are frustrated as we are unable to make any progress and whatever work we used do during the day got lost. We tried using recommendations from your website, but it did not work to recover old data.
We would like to have a technical solution so that we can complete our project and launch our website.
Thank you,
Hello Sonia,
The Incomedia support team will respond to your request as soon as they can, but in the meantime can you please post the text details of any error messages that you receive when the program crashes. This will help diagnose the cause of the problem.
Most crashes are related to the Microsoft .NET Framework, Microsoft Visual C++, Windows 10/updates, font issues. It is important that these are all in good order on the host machine. There are threads with solutions to the various issues on the forum.
In the meantime your patience is appreciated.
Kind regards,
Paul
Hello Sonia,
Does this happens only to one project? Which windows Version are you using?
Which exact error message you receive?
Is there a details tab? If yes please copy the content and paste it here.
Many thanks!

Thank you for your response, we appreciate your efforts to resolve our issue.
We are currently working on one project. Whenever we encountered a issue, we got a pop-up to report the error back, so we filled in crashed and our email address. Trust this got registered into the X5 error reporting database.
Typically the crash happened after we added a pages or tried to save or view the layout, it just stopped responding and the program closed (it showed a big Red cross mark).
Yesterday’s example: we updated couple of page layouts and the program started updating the response grid, it continued doing so for more than 3 hours, when we minimised the page do other activities, we could not maximise it. So had no other option then to use the task manager to end the program, doing so we lost all the work.
The operating system being used is Windows 10 pro version 1511 64 bit.

Hello Sonia,
Please try to check if there are any windows updates and in case install these. Check also if there are updated for internet explorer.
Once done start the program, disable the responsive functionality and work on the program to check if also then you get the same error message.
In case it works correctly try again to activate the responsive functionality and test if also so it works.
Please keep me updated.

Just back from holidays, therefore dely in replying. Thank you for your tips, checked for windows update - it was update to the latest June version. We do not use internet explorer - we use google crome. Does that make a difference? Todat started work on the file and it crashed again

Is it linked to the size of the project? We have more than 2500 pictures and 350+ pages

Hello Sonia Aranha,
The program uses some components of Internet Explorer and this one needs to be also updated also if you don't use it.
Could you please make a new test project to see if the same happens?
do you keep many programs running in background while you work on WebSite X5?
The images you added in the project how big are they?
Did you resize them before using these in the program?
Many thanks!

Thank you,
Actions and feedback from our end
Cheers and best regards,
Hello Sonia,
Did you already tested the project on this new computer to see if there you experience the same issue?
The program resizes the image but in case of big projects like yours with many images the program needs to resize them everytime you make a change on the layout or order of the objects of the page since the size is different and in cases it needs to resize all 2500 images this means many resources used only for this operation which then can bringf to your issue. If you can optimize the images for the web, in case you have to use many images on the project, will help to avoid the program to have to resize the images everytime you are makingf changes on the project.
Please keep me updated.
Sonia, your website is very large with a lot of content and you may be running out of memory. Open up the task manager and see if you are. If you are, then any program may freeze, lock up or access the HD for memory at best.
Your son's laptop may work better because of the SS hard drive. You may wish to consider splitting up your site into smaller ones by using sub-domains. (Which would be separate projects/websites as far as X5 is concerned.) This would be much easier to manage in regards to opening, saving, making changes, exporting and uploading to your host.
It can work fairly seemless, as you just link to the sub-domain instead of your next page or region/section of your site. You may want to see what your hosting service has for sub-domains, check how it works and consider. Yes, some work to set up, but once it's done a lot of time could be saved, especially if you making changes on a regular basis.

Hi Donald,
We tested the old project on my son’s computer, but while saving the file it stopped at 92%. Therefore, we agree that it makes sense to split the projects into smaller and manageable projects. We have created sub-domains. Please advise how do we link multiple projects using x5?
Questions:
1. Do we keep the base templates the same for the multiple projects? The dropdown menus, levels’/pages etc.
2. How do we link multiple projects to one website, do you have a procedure/work instructions?
3. How will the shopping cart work when we have multiple projects?
While advising please take into consideration a scenario were we will possible use X5 to host our website.
Best regards,

Hello Sonia,
You can make a copy of the project so it will keep the same settings and then in one you keep as example the shopping cart and on the other the other types of content so the cart will work correctly.
You can then use on step 2 the level to add links to the pages of the other project by opening the properties.
One project has to be uploaded on the main folder of the hosting while the other needs to be uploade on a subfolder.
Many thanks!
Sonia, hope you've made progress since your last post. Keep in mind that each sub-domain can be a totally separate project.
So, on #1 this is your call. It's a different project so you could have a different template if desired. It may be best to keep it uniform throughout, but that depends on your requirements.
#2) You don't, except nav/menu buttons, text or image with a link to another section of your site. You have a project with your index page and anything else related to that. Then you need a menu (or buttons) with links to each section of your site on each page of all projects/sections of your site.
#3)Thanks Claudio
Some people make copies of their project, rename and remove what they don't want for that section. Another would be to have a base template, other than your index page area, and change the content for each section which MAY be easier for you. Once again your call.
As we have strayed from your original post, any new questions would be best as a new post.
Although I'm very good with computers, programs and web design software knowledge, (with X5 at the top of the list), I am no expert with X5 or web design.
