How do I allow my customers to update the full calendar?  en

I understand that a calendar program can create a .ics file for dates, etc.  How does my customer upload the created .ics file to the website calendar?  I looked for answers, and see where you tell them to put it in the internet.  Where on the internet?  Do I need another URL?  I need instructions to give the customer of my website so they can update the calendar themselves.  Thanks.

Hello Richard,

The .ics file IS the website calendar itself.  You point the Full Calendar to the location of the .ics file which you wish to use, which can be either a local file on your computer, or a file on the internet, for example Google Calendar.

If using Google Calendar then the .ics file is tied to a Google Account, and the calendar can be configured using the following instructions:

https://support.google.com/calendar/?hl=en

Kind regards,

Paul

So I can create a google calendar and merge the html (iframe code) in the page where I want the calendar.  Then, the customer can update it on his PC, and it will automatically link and sync.  Is that correct?  See this link:  https://support.google.com/calendar/answer/41207

Will this work?  There seems to be many conflicting and confusing steps to creating and synching a calendar.  Just trying to do it right for X5.  Thanks.

The link you posted contains instructions on how to embed a Google Calendar on your website, but this would only be relevant and useful if you were not already using the Full Calendar Object.

You can choose to display a Google Calendar on your website using either the iframe code which Google provide, or alternatively using the Full Calendar Object.  But you need to pick one method over the other.

It is important to realise that the Full Calendar Object only offers display of an .ics calendar.  It does not have any features which permit editing.

Editing of an .ics calendar should be done in accordance with the instructions provided by the calendar provider.  If you intend to allow third-parties access and administrative rights to a calendar then you will need to ensure that they have the necessary permissions and privileges for the account in question.  However, this is nothing to do with WebSite X5 as such.

If the person creating the calendar is the one that will be updating it, then how do they get me the information I need to put into the website using X5V12 Pro?  I want them to edit and correct the calendar, not me.  When they have created a calendar (say with Google), then what do they send me and how do I link / synch it to the Calendar object in X5?  Still not clear on this.  How do they create or get the .ics file from the calendar, and send it to me, then how do I use that to put into the website?

Things are very slowly becoming clearer, but someone needs to create a detailed instruction as to how to use the Calendar object and link the updates to the calendar.

Thanks.

The person creating the calendar provides you with the link to the .ics file, which you enter under Data > Calendar files in the Full Calendar Object:

https://support.google.com/calendar/answer/37648?hl=en

That's it...  there is nothing further to do.  ALL the editing and administration of the calendar is done from within a Google account as opposed to WebSite X5.

Any changes that a user makes to the calendar from their Google account will automatically be shown.  Remember, the Full Calendar Object is a display only object.
