Hello,

I copied a page from the existing X5 v12 pro project into a new project. The page is was not a homepage, but in the new project I want to make it a homepage. What is an easy way of doing it, instead of copying individual object by individual object?

Thank you

Hello Max,

A website's homepage is the one defined by the filename index.html or index.php

First, go to Step 2 Map Creation, highlight the existing Home Page in the sitemap, then click the 'Properties' button on the right-hand side...  on the General tab set the 'File Name' to anything other than 'index', and click 'OK'.

Next, highlight your new copied page in the sitemap, and again click 'Properties'...  on the General tab set the 'File Name' to 'index', then click 'OK'.

Back in the sitemap, right-click in turn on both of the pages you have just edited, and rename them to reflect their new identities.

Having done this you may wish to rearrange the order of pages in your sitemap, for example to keep the new 'Home Page' at the top.

If you prefer, you can 'hide' the old 'Home Page' in the sitemap.

However, one caveat...  the default 'Home Page' in WebSite X5 is a special page (you will notice it cannot be removed completely from the sitemap)  -  I strongly recommend that you copy the individual Objects one by one to the default 'Home Page', instead of using the method above, unless your project is extremely simple.

Kind regards,

Paul

Paul,

Thank you for the quick response.

Unfortunately your suggestion did not work.

Renamed the files, renamed the page names of both original and desired homepages, but it did not have any affect on home icon next to the page that was designated as homepage from the initial creation of the project.

Consequently, I still cannot delete original homepage even though the file name of it is 243341.htm and the title name is sdasdas. T

he desired page has file name index.htm and title Home Page but is still a regular subpage. Note that I cannot change the order of original homepage and desired homepage - original homepage stays on the top of the list in the Map creation screen.

I have also tried close x5 and loading the project again - that did not help as well.

Unfortunately I don't experience the issues you describe, Max, so am unable to suggest what might be causing them.

Note that the home 'icon' has no bearing on what page functions as the 'homepage' in a website.  The homepage which will be served up by the server is that which has the filename index, home, or similar...

Please note also that the default 'Home Page' in WebSite X5 cannot be deleted, as stated in my post above.

In any event, I strongly recommend copying each Object to the default Home Page, instead of defining an alternative index page within WebSite X5.

Best wishes...

Thank you Paul,

I did not click on "Show more" link and missed part of your response.

I will solved the problem just as you and I suggested it in the first place by coping it object by object.
