"SPACEBAR" + "ALT" combo freeze "TEXT OBJECT" during input  en

In version 13 Evolution, During input of Text into "TEXT OBEJCT" I have accidently pushed both "space bar" and "alt" (right alt) key at the same time. This Freezes the entire program and I have found no way to recover.  My wife has also done this twice on her computer, hitting the "left-alt" key.  We have gotten a rotating donut shaped cursor inside the program after this occurs and it will not let you close the object or save you work.  The only way I have found to over come this is to call up the task manager and kill the program.

Has anyone else have this happen?  Any ideas to over come when it happens?

After asking my question above, I went to close the program.  Instead of using the "Task Manager", I "right Clicked" on the program icon in the "task bar".  I selected "close" and by the little computer imps, the "TEXT OBECT" closed only.  The only data lost was what I was working on in the "TEXT OBJECT". So, I saved and exported.  Ran a preview window and all else looked good.  Here is to the new year.

James, on my PC clicking ALT+Space brings up a windows menu (top left of the window) with Move, Size, Maximise, Minimise, Close in whatever program I am using, including WX5. If I click anywhere in the window, the menu disappears and control is returned to the program (ie if text box, I can continue editing).

James, because I was replying to this post and wanted to try recreate your problem, I checked your profile which lead me to read your previous posts. I note that in order to minimize saving times you have turned off automatic saves, in one post (that I commented on) I also note that you use Filezilla.

I mention this only because if you are not using the built in FTP program, you will have no backups being created, so hopefully you occasionally create an iwzip to go back to in case of catastrophy.

There are a number of posts in the helpcentre by people who have recently lost their whole project due to WX5 locking up.

Sorry if I am preaching to the converted.

We, (my wife & I) are currently building 2 projects on different Windows 10 computers.  Since we both have similar problems, I will talk as one.

Even though the save functions are turned off, anytime we make changes to the "MAP" section and go to "PAGES" the program saves without prompting.  Maybe it is more correct to think of this a rebuilding of the site map.  Because, one can usually still save after this finishes.  I judge this from reports in the system "TASK Manager"  The prgram uses every bit of computer power the processor has during this process. During this, the program does not tell you what is going on, it just hangs and will no let you do anything.  When this behind the scene process finishes, the program will let you proceed.

After we do a "SAVE", we always try to use the "EXPORT THE PROJECT".  Do you feel that it would be wise to turn the features back on under save?

The only reason that I have used Filezilla, was I could not get the built in FTP program to connect and upload.  I will admit that I have not tried with version 13, just ver 12.  We are reconstructing or rebuilding current sites to be replaced by what we are doing, so we will have a totally new site or sites when finished.  So, an upload will probably not take place until we are complete.

I do not feel you are preaching, thank you.  You want to save me problems, I have already lost a day or two of entry at times to the above problems.  I try to be religious about saving and exporting.  The export file (iwzip) is the only way to get back on foot.  I am currently at 8,000 pages and it takes me 5 hours to process a "SAVE" and rebuild the site map after changes to it.

I appreciate helpful comments, thank you for the help.

James, it looks like you have all bases covered with one (or many) iwzip files at hand. I congratulate you on your patience - 5 hours to process a save is extraordinary (I'd have been looking for an alternate solution by now :-)

I have seen your old site - I look forward to checking out the new one.
