To the developers: misleading mention in the French i10n to be changed  en

Hi !

I wonder if the developers can change what follows in a next update.
(BTW I am a French speaking person but I post this in English as I guess it is easier for the readers of my msg.)

The software makes it easy to protect several pages and e.g. to make page No1 readable by a visitor No1, page No2 readable by a visitor No2.

When you use this system it is important to make it clear for the visitors of your site that some pages are NOT readable for some people or some groups.

In the files l10n.php and l10n.js I found the following lines:
(#279 in the .php, #280 in the .js)
$l10n['private_area_account_not_allowed'] = 'Vous devez vous connecter pour accéder à cette page.';

I found the English version in x5engine.php
case -8 : return l10n("private_area_account_not_allowed", "Your account is not allowed to access the selected page");

The French text is NOT a correct translation, far from there.  And this is really misleading for the French visitors of a site.  Let me explain why.

First you can see that the English text is telling that something is NOT POSSIBLE ("not allowed").  The French text is telling the visitor that he MUST do something ("vous devez").  One thing is nearly the OPPOSITE of the other.

Let's take an example.  Visitor #1 may see pg #1 not pg #2, visitor #2 pg #2 not pg #1.  I am visitor #1.

After my login at pg 1 I read its content and then try to reach pg 2.  I get this msg "Vous devez".  This gives the impression that I am disconnected (in fact I am not) and that I have to log in again.  But this is totally wrong and I would not have the same feeling with the English text.

Once a visitor IS connected he should NOT get a wrong msg telling him he MUST reconnect!  If he tries to read not allowed pages, he should read something like "Votre compte ne vous permet pas d'accéder à cette page" which is a right translation.  If not, he gets the feeling of a poorly working site, asking him to log in again and again, for no reason and unsuccessfully! frown

I believe it is really important for you to change this translation in an update!  Your other msg (when there is a mistake in the user code or password) is right
-2 $l10n['private_area_login_error'] = 'Mauvais code d\'utilisateur et/ou mot de passe erroné';
the problem is really with this line "Vous devez"!

So I suggest you make this change, which would display something like the enclosed picture (or something slighly different if your translator prefers):

Michel,

Thanks for this information, I will set this post for Incomedia to read so they can adjust the text in the next version.

In the meantime, let me help you, You don't need the files to check or correct this, it can be done in x5.

Goto language buttun (not the pulldown but the button next to it) search there for ant text that x5 uses and you would like to change, goto the text, edit it there. after that upload and all your projects will reflect the changes.

Andre,

Thanks for this very useful trick!

One last thing :

I think Incomedia should look at the other languages and see if this mention should be changed for them too.  E.g. in English "Your account is not allowed to access the selected page" is much better and clearer than the Dutch "Voor toegang tot deze pagina moet je eerst inloggen" (which is about the same as the French "Vous devez vous connecter pour accéder à cette page")...  It would be a good idea to review this mention in every language (considering that the developers understand my obvious explanation above).

One again thanks for your help and have a nice day!

Dear Michel,

I confirm that I have spoken with the developers and we will fix this.

By now, please modify the French message from Step 1- Language Properties if you want to. The English message is just a fallback, only the French message will be displayed.

Thank you again. Kind regards.
