Generic error - Shopping Cart - X5 Pro

I am using X5 Pro - thought it would be a step up with lots more useful features. So far.....not looking great. Can anyone explain why i am getting a generic error message when i use the buy now button? I have checked the website using the online control panel, all folders/php etc pass the website test.
How do i access the databse to down;oad information or create invoices from the stored info? Apparently it stores the order number which is the reason i upgraded. So far haven't nmanaged to get access to the dbase, or prevent the generic error message. I have searched the help files/tutorials and not enough information.
