Will I lose my version 8 templates when I upgrade to version 9?  en

I have about 40 websites that are written with version 8, using the templates from this version. I am worried that all that will be lost. Plus I'm also concerned about compatability between v8 and v9 with the more subtle elements that make up all of these complex websites. Any clues anyone?

I've only been using V9 for about 24 hours, well i say using, i mean playing with.A couple of sites i've built in V8 act in very strange ways when i import them into V9, for example one i did had a scrolling banner across it with one line of text , if i load the same site into version 9 it puts it on 2 lines and so far i've found no way of changing it.

So far i'm not impressed with the backwards compatibility and at the moment any site i've built with V8 will only be updated with V8.

I got asked to build a site for somebody last week so i'm going to start building it with V9 to see what happens.

As for templates, if its already been built using V8 the template will still be there as its saved with everything else in the file folders as far as i'm aware.

Thanks for the excellent answer Simon, I really appreciate you taking the time! Your comments are very worrying, could be a major issue for me as I am constantly updating and maintaining stacks of websites already created with V8. This takes a hell of a lot of my time, don't really want to add to that burden by having to rewrite, adapt problem solve all the issues that you have described. Might wait till they have an update before upgrading, hopefully they will have sorted out any probs by then.

I didn't know that you could run two versions in parallel? I thought that when you download version 9 it will overight version 8 by default? Do you pay for 2 licences to do this?

I didnt do an upgrade from 8 , i bought 8 after a certain date so got V9 for free so V9 was a separate install.

as for the update you are waiting for, they've already released an update lol, yes withing 24 hours of it being released, i'm guessing there will be quite a few more before all the problems are fixed.

Ug, was quite excited when the email came through today about the upgrade. Now totally bummed out after reading all the negative comments on the forum and your useful input. Defo not upgrading until all is resolved.

Hi Michael, we updated most of the old templates present in the v8, so you will have to check it the one you used were removed from v9. If you used the 'Custom template' than, it will be converted.

I suggest you to read this pdf we created to check you v8 projects here www.websitex5.com/v8tov9

as for the update you are waiting for, they've already released an update lol

The last version you can download from Internet is 9.0.1654. We didn't released any update now Undecided

We are receiving now thousands of requests just because we just launched the software for all languges and many users are posting to have info on how to register or use the new v9. I invite you downloading the demo version, so you can start testing it Cool

As a constant user of X5........

I have V8 & V9 on my computer they use different Program File Folders (Check it out) I have the pleasure now of converting my 60+ projects to V9

They do take time to sort out the niggly bits as the webpage is now HTML 5 compliant. New HTML Tags have been introduced the others being deprecated (Phased out in time) All this will be beneficial to us over the next few years. The browsers are now catching up on this new technology as well as being backwards compatible for older versions.

If you Batch Process your V8 Project before introducing it to V9 it should work out OK (My other two have) the only ones that will not work (Haven't on mine anyhow) is the animated SWF's that are in the models of V8.

Take a chill pill and start converting over time there's no rush just yet for a conversion to V9. I'm still using V8 for projects I have now but I know they will have to changed eventually. It's just finding time don't you think??

However if your clients require a website I suggest using V9 & NOT V8!!

Hope this helps....... Frank Cool

Version 9 is causing me untold problems!

It uses memory VERY heavily and takes ages to convert my website (which IS a 360 pager one).

There are errors all over the place ie "fills" that are only partial, "scroll bars", where there shouldn't be and the cconfounded headers and footers are all missing.

I am probably going to ask for my money back!

I noticed that the continue button is greyed out the question you put into the box is close to a question already asked, it expects you to click on one of those instead, last time i opened a new thread i had to change the question in order for the continue button to become live.

Just because the question may be similar doesnt mean its the same so can this be sorted so no matter what question is asked the continue button can still be clicked please.
