FTP connection error  en

I am getting the error "Connection Error: it is not possible to complete the operation. [FTP_GetCurrentDirestory]

My website URL is http://www.cyclewight.org.uk

I am using ftp.cyclewight.org.uk

I have tried some advice on this error from this website, i.e. I deleted the destination folder and I tried passive mode on and off

At the moment I am having to use Filezilla to upload my changes and this works perfectly, but it means i must upload the complete website every time, which is time consuming as I frequently make small changes that X5 allows me to do, using the "files changed since last upload" setting.

I try the same settings and credentials that work fine in Filezilla, using the X5 built in uploader and that gives me the error above

When using Filezilla you have the option to upload only changed files which will achieve what you expect, although the option to create a backup every time you upload will not work (down arrow next to save).

Did the WX5 FTP work previously?

Have you checked that your anti-virus and or firewall are not blocking the connection? You should be able to disable both to see if it then works as expected.

Is the destination folder correct? Are the files being loaded into the root of your server space or the /public_html directory?

For one of my sites I require ftp.mydomainname.org.uk as the FTP address, but for another if I include ftp the connection fails (ie for the FTP address I must use simply mydomainname.org.uk)

Please let us know if any of the above helps.

Hi

Thankyou for the response. I have tried connecting with and without the ftp in front of my domain name. destination is set to /public_html. I have not changed any firewall settings since owning this PC and I use Windows defender as I have for the last 5 years, so no changes there.

WX5 FTP has worked for mr for 3 years, through V9 to V11. I had always used normal FTP in passive mode and started getting warnings telling me I had to use TLS to connect. So I set X5 to use FTP over explicite TLS via port 21 and I get the error i pointed out above.

I am with OSHS for hosting and they tell me they want port 21 for TLS FTP and not 990.

As I said, i have found the setting you mention in Filwzilla transfer settings, thanks for that.

I can use Filezilla no problems, so why the settings do not work on the built in X5 ftp i cannot imagine

Hello Alan,

If you try to leave as port 990 for explicit TLS do you receive the same error?

Many thanks!

Hi

I tried leaving the port as 990, te server returned the error "Port is usually in use by another protocol"

The strange thing is tonight, I changed nothing and now Filezilla will not connect, it just gives a timeout error.

I am beginning to wonder if there is a problem at OSHS

I know where I'd be pointing the bone :-)

Each of my webhosts offer online chat, similar issues have always been resolved though this feature (logging a trouble ticket takes way too long)
