I'm in the process of adding anchors to my site and would like to know if there is a maximum number of anchors that can be used?

There is no limit.
see the help file: http://help.websitex5.com/en/v13/pro/ancore_ht.htm
Only that they need to be unique. And you can only have 1 anchor for every object.
