Large images being uploaded although they did not change since last upload  en

I have some large images and video files which DO NOT change. But every time I update the website, even though I select the option which roughly says "Do not upload files which have not changed since last update" these large images all update as does every file in the section of the menu where the file that changed was located.

This wastes an incredible amount of time and resources. Why does the site upload not do what it says?

See test site at https://crescentbeachcayman.com/ignatius/default.html

Chapel_groundbreaking.mp4 in ignatius/files/ is 443 mb in size. There is absolutely no reason to upload this more than once if it is unchanged.

If you don't want this then it is better to seperatly upload large file's (you can in x5 step5 upload website)

and link to them, or check where they are on your server and link to that adress.

But X5 does this for every connected item to whatever you have changed, this is to be sure that all links and all relevant items are in 100% working order. Even if it is not changed directly, there are probably items connected eather in the foreground or in the background. Else there is a change the website might not work. And nobody wants that.

Best Regards,

Andre - sorry - this is nonsense. Look at Microsoft Frontpage - it knew precisely which files had changed and did not waste our time and internet resources to reload them - and that was back in 2003. You are risking far more by independently loading and linking. The fact is that Website X5 does not properly take care of changed items - like it does not properly format table cells when rows and/or columns are deleted - see my previous post. There are so many bugs in V14 that I decided not to rant - I woukld have to write too many emails- if I released my banking software in the state that WSX514 is I would get sued.

Furthermore - if the linkage is so good, why are the images not appearing on:

http://www.ignatius.ky/default.html or on any page connected with it?

I have been in circles with GoDaddy over this and am getting nowhere! When I go into cPanel all of the files are there and the names are correctly uppercase/lowercase matched for Linux nonsense.

Cheers

Paul

Hello Paul,

If you modify a page all content related to this page is updated and so all files linked are exported again to make sure all will work correctly.

I see the images on the page http://www.ignatius.ky/default.html

Can you please send me a screenshot of how it appears to you?

Many thanks!

Hi Claudio - the issue of the images was solved. It appears that despite years of technology we still cannot repoint a domain name quickly - GoDaddy's excuse was that until DNS was fully updated, images might not appear! Poor programming by someone if the text can be resolved and found but not the images and videos.

But the issue was compounded by the fact that the entry page was still showing despite the fact that I had unchecked the option "Show entry page" - so no images from the entry page and no timeout to go across to the home page.

Anyway - thanks for checking.

Yes, there is a certificate issue on that page - I am beginning to regret my decision to try GoDaddy. I purchased an SSL cert from them and they have screwed up the certificate chain so it looks as though it is self-certified.

I will have to move all links to videos off of the home page - I cannot afford the wait-time of reloading them every time there is a home page adjustment. It will mean one extra click for visitors but that is life.

Cheers

Paul

Hello Paul,

For the videos you can also upload them manually on your hosting space and then you add in the video object the link to the online file. In this way the program will not upload them and it will appear in the website.

Many thanks!
