Divide a large project in several smaller projects

I have a large project (more than 20 Gb). Saving the project or importing it takes a lot of time, so I want to divide the project (if possible) in several smaller projects to reduce that time. Can anyone explain to me how to do this. (If possible with an example.)

Ik heb naar de website gekeken en zoveel pagina' s zijn het eigenlijk niet eens. Kan het zijn dat de grootte van het project in hoofdzaak veroorzaakt wordt door het grote aantal pdf's en mp3's?
Misschien is het mogelijk om deze afzonderlijk op de webserver te plaatsen en dat je vanuit het WebsiteX5-project er naartoe 'linkt'? Daarmee verlicht je het project waarschijnlijk aanzienlijk.
Als je de website namlijk gaat onderverdelen, dan moet je elk deel-project in een afzonderlijke map op de webserver zetten, het project kopiëren en de pagina's die je niet in een deel-project wil hebben verwijderen. En dan moet je ook zorgen voor een overkopelend 'landingsproject', wat naar de andere deelproject linkt. En dat is best een hele klus. En WebsiteX5 heeft geen voorzieningen om je daarbij te helpen.
Mijn eigen website was in eerste instantie zo opgezet, maar daar ben ik van teruggekomen. Het was teveel gedoe..

Bedankt voor het meedenken. Je hebt gelijk dat het beter is om eerst de bestanden met bv. Filezilla eerst op de webserver te plaatsen en vervolgens vanuit het project hirrnaar toe te linken. Dan blijft het project klein. Kost wel veel tijd omdat het om veel mp3 bestanden gaat, maar is met het oog op de toekomst wel verstandig om dit te doen.

The links are used as a link to external files. The file names of the external files should remain the same or the links in the project would have to be adjusted.
For the management of external files, we use filezilla with detection when changing files. The files are stored in a subdomain (also possible in separate directories, also possible in ftp from wx5).
