I want to temporily remove my website until I redesign it in a way I am happy with to republish again
How do I do this?

Andrew, if you delete the index file it will not open, just go to ftp, when the files appear delete index and do not proceed with upload.
If you want to get fancy, simply create a new project, put something nice on the home page ("come back soon" ??) and upload it. This will overwrite the existing index file.

A possible solution is to set the pages as Under construction. In this way, the pages will be displayed in the preview, but they will not be published online with the rest of the project, and neither will the items in the navigation menu that refer to them.
