New type in help center  en

I suggest a new type in help center : Code for html-objects

Meaning : Users should post code, that if put in a html-object, the html-object will act as a "new" object.

This could be code for a megaMenu-object. Example of a single html-object that acts like a MegaMenu can be seen here : http://www.bramminginfo.dk/brm09/mega2.html

An example for an accordeon can be seen here : http://www.energifremtiden.dk/c4d/accordion---2.html

And here : http://www.energifremtiden.dk/c4d/accordion-3---copy.html

This would do, that INCOMEDIA could put a sample code up for a MegaMenu.

Then people could use this code until or instaed of an object is made.

The code put on the forum should be able to run with no or only few moderations. Users should modify the code themselve to fit their needs. INCOMEDIA should not be responsible for the modifications, but could assist with guidelines and especially other users could assist.

Users could help each other if someone has problems by implementing it, or if a user need additional funtionality.

By time we could have a big library, where people could pick code to use in a html-object in X5.

This will be extremely useful if a user has a client that demands that a site should have the accordeon functionality. As it is now we cannot be sure of when an object for this will be made - or if it will be made.

This user could create a post describing the needed function, and if someone has a solution then post the code, and the user can deliver the function the customer asks for. I think the sum of knowledge for all users here on the forum will nearly match the knowledge of INCOMEDIA and if we work together, then we will be strong in making great websites.

And that should be what we all want.

This is not a cry for help. I think, that I myself can manage to handle such things as MegaMenu and accordeons.

It is just a suggestion for INCOMEDIA.

Think of a NEW user that test this software. He looks for an object that should solve his need for an accordeon.

He cannont find it. Or he makes a bad investment in an accordeon image viewer - and this is NOT an accordeon he can use for FAQ or so.

He then looks at WordPress and find that there are over 50.000 objects, and there are more than one for an accordeon.

What a crappy program he thinks ( of X5 )

If he had a library where he could find code for one or more accordeon(s), and he could just clip this code and put it in an html-object, and see it function right away - then he would think :

This is a magic object. No installation - it functions at once. What a good piece of software.

See - this could be a true fairy tale.

And Bootstrap? I have integrated Bootstrap into Website X5... The best thing would be to integrate Bootstrap into the Website X5 and you get this at the link below (it's not a Mega Menú, but it's so amazing! If you bring the mouse on the sliding photos, the scrolling stops so you can click on the green buttons "Read more ..." etc., remove the mouse from the photos to make it back to scroll automatically):

Hello Giuseppe. Yes that is some of that I mean. You had a section with :

Accordeon

MegaMenu

Bootstrap

And some other categories, and then we could share and use the code, that users ( and INCOMEDIA ) had shared here. It would not neccessary need to be code - it could be a description how you could achieve different things.

When even an "old dog" as Jiper, that has helped so many people, think it could be useful for him also, then I am sure it could be awesome.

I would settle for a search in the help that could actually find something relevant :-(

Most of my search success (if I have any) comes from a brute force google search outside of the helpcenter.

@Esahc - Do you then mean, that because the helpcenter has a less good search function, then we should not have a place where INCOMEDIA could present object-solutions via code for the html-object? A place where we could have code to put in html-objects, in case there is not an object for this - or will never come.

And a place where INCOMEDIA could present live demos for the code.

Are you against the idea, or do you just suggest INCOMEDIA to improve the search?

John, such a section would be great, after all, they already have guides. But the ability to search for code, a snipet or a published solution would be a wonderful addition.

I am just frustrated I cannot usually find the solution that is already there.

I hope you succeed with your request.

Brilliant idea John.

That would be fantastic since X5 are so slow at introducing new objects. We have to try and implement it on our own if we need somthing outside the very limited supply of objects that Incomedia has to offer.

Thank's William

That is "spot on" why I suggest this.

INCOMEDIA could use this to "pretend" that there is a solution for an object.

This would be between their original idea to have an "easy to use" software that a non-coder could use, and the full-blowing software like Wordpress.

You/they have the chance to make an "object" and a user just will have to edit the code instaed of putting parameters in an object.

In fact - you maybe can have more functionality in such a html-object, as it can be modified at your wish - if you know how to, or if someone can help you.

I think this could help INCOMEDIA to be "up in speed" with other software on the market.

Now I would like to know what INCOMEDIA think of such an idea.

Elisa,

OF COURSE IT'S A BRILLANT IDEA!

OF COURSE YOU CAN THANK Jonh and all the others who give good ideas on the forum to get things done, disappointed to see the slow response or lack of solutions.

As usual Elisa, you think to satisfy our patience by specifying that you report this BRILLIANT idea to the department in charge.

You'd better send us anti-depressants because dozens of ideas have never been taken into consideration, the bugs still exist.

We are dozens to waste hours and days finding solutions to the problems we face, solutions not findable because they are bugs or a limit of support.

INCOMEDIA leaves its customers in the shit.

INCOMEDIA allows itself to take 1 month of vacation, while the malfunctions are not solved (menu, sticky bar, reset button in mail, etc...)

It's a shame.

I am amazed by your confidence and your uselessness on this forum.

Let the competent persons help us.

Elisa you can go on holiday tonight! it will not change anything for us.

Danielle, a desperate customer

You are right about the handling of our user-ideas. I think INCOMEDIA has invented a time-machine. They take all our ideas and send them to the future, where they hope/expect some people from the future will realize the ideas. But the people that developed the machine, forgot to make it reversible. So - the people in the future cannot send the solutions back, and as the machine was set to send all material to 2113, then we will have to wait a long time before we see the ideas come to live.

And the bugs : you forgot the Parallax flickering and a couple of other things wink

John - not desperate (yet), but disappointed

Hello guys,

I understand your point, and I am sorry if you felt frustrated because of this.

Please consider that there are many aspects that need to be taken into account for the introduction of a new function (for the software as well as for the portal itself). I am not only referring to technical aspects, but to commercial and communication ones as well. As you can image, it is something that goes beyond the simple development of a feature, as this implies the collaboration of different departments of the company, as well as the coordination of many people and their tasks.

Because of this and because there isn't currently any public roadmap concerning the future product developments it is very difficult for me to tell you for sure if and possibly when a function will be implemented.

I hope having clarified our perspective on the "Ideas" as well, but if you have any questions please feel free to let me know.

Hello Elisa

Thank you for responding, and than you for not responding with the "normal automatic" answer. I think most of us can understand that things can't be done/made in a snap. But it would be nice with some more information than just : We have received your request - wait and hope.

I have seen systems, where wishes/requests was listed and could be commented.

Then the developer department, sets a status : Waiting, under consideration, will probably not be realized, development started, development ongoing, under test.

And then two remarks for request : How many stars/likes from users and how many stars/likes from developers/consultants.

This is for the new requests/ideas.

The object-gallery, should be a common thing. Driven by users and developers. And it would be a sales-window for INCOMEDIA to present objects, that is not yet objects, but can be implemented via html-objects.

And now I will just wish you, and the other people at INCOMEDIA a nice vacation.

Kind regards

John S.

John, as an interim measure have you considered an alternate repository for code fragments, code solutions, etc?

Many years ago there was a place called Frank's Cyber Cafe. It was a private site requiring membership sign up. It had many tips, tricks, code fragments and alternative solutions to WX5 shortcomings (and I am sure the criticisms of WX5 were a major irritant to Incomedia :-). This site moved to Facebokk and can be found here https://www.facebook.com/groups/frankscybercafe

For a period of time this facebook page was a wonderful resource, but when Frank Newsome (creator) ceased to be involved it quietly ran down and became primarily an advertising outlet for X5Tuts Marketplace.

There are still many X5 users on the page, and with an injection of enthusiasm, solutions and answers it could again become the best alternative WX5 help and resource centre.

I think I understand the reluctance of Incomedia to endorse 3rd party code by dedicating part of the helpcentre to it. So many times in the past I have resorted to such code to provide a solution, only to find that an update broke the code. If the code is on the helpcentre, is the problem then the code authors problem or Incomedia's problem?

I agree that what you suggest is required (I would love a one stop shop for alternative solutions and workarounds that is easily searchable), the question is, will it happen in a timely manner.

Esahc - I have considered this. But I think it should be an INCOMEDIA thing. I cannot understand why INCOMEDIA does not have a place where they offer free code. This could be a place where there is no guarantee. I have a good example.

An accordion ( text-accordion ) is a must for a site today. But INCOMEDIA does not have an object for this. People that use X5 to make a site and wants a FAQ section must look elsewhere for this.

They ( INCOMEDIA ) could make a simple accordion that could be copied and pasted into a html-object, and then it functions. They could make a description how people could edit text in the accordion and how to add items. This would be rather simple.

That would be seen as a good service I think. And it would be seen as X5 offers an accordion. If users needed help for enhancing the accordion, then other users could help with this. Also INCOMEDIA could help if something conflicted with their standard-code, but users should know that the code that INCOMEDIA provide here, is free and it might not be supported. Of course INCOMEDIA will have an interest in having functional code, and if a user finds out that there is a general problem, then they would probably assist with finding the problem.

Maybe INCOMEDIA is afraid that if they offer free code, then they will not be able to sell an eventual object for this purpose. But this is same same situation as today. If users doesn't find what they need, they will either find new software or they will find the code themselves.

Today X5 offers a very limited number of objects. This would be a rapid way to make "objects" available for users. I know it will not help the users that not at all want to fiddle with code, but with some good explanation and some examples, then it should be possible also for no-coders to use such objects.

Of course it would be ideal if an object was made with pure html and css. This way it is just to clip the code and paste in a html-object.

But also code that requires some Js could be made available - with some explanation.

And then INCOMEDIA should stop seeing all 3rd party stuff as an enemy - they should promote it, so that their users would have the best solution integrated in their X5. Also here I have a good example.

There is the free LuxCal calendar that is very easy to integrate in X5. It is easy to style, and it has a good display feature. It is a total calendar concept. Instead of telling of this, INCOMEDIA offers that you can BUY the "Full calendar". This is the worst buy ever. The "full calendar"-object is not even a calendar. It can only show content of a file.

It is only INCOMEDIA that can decide if they want to have a product that can make good looking websites, and then offer information to users how they can make the best sites - OR - if they want to have a product that has many bugs and that has a very limited number of objects - and some of the objects is not very useful.

I have considered to make a place where users could find objects like accordion and so, and where people could find information about, how to have a fantastic calendar integrated in X5, and also how users could make databases where people can log in and access to data is dependent on the users credentials ( for a table is a user or usergroup allowed to view, edit, create, delete dat ), and where data can be filtered and sorted - but I have at the moment decided not to do this.

Again - it should be an INCOMEDIA thing, and if they don't do something, I think that it will have no purpose at all, as things are moving fast in this digital world, and if firms can't read what is going on, then they will be either non-existent, or have another role.

I will mention NOKIA and KODAK

And I think that INCOMEDIA should care some more about their users - If we weren't here, then ......

Kind regards

John

It's a brilliant idea John. Creating a code repository independent of Incomedia is feasible but difficult to manage because it takes a long time. It would be easier to share the solutions that are gradually implemented here on the Help Center. This is what many of us already do, but the main problem is that the solutions are lost in the hundreds of posts that are created.
I hope your idea is taken into consideration.
