Preview corrupts template when scaling down

When I go to preview mode, my template looks fine in deskktop 960px mode on my laptop. But when I view the scaled down 720px or 480px, the text drops down out of my header and footer and ends up over my content cells. I have the "Responsive Site" selected for my template. I know I am doing something wrong but not sure what. Incidentlly, thank you for a great program.

Robert, if you could provide a screen capture (or better still a link to your site online) we could provide more accurate assistance.
