V17 hangs  en

Since upgrading to V17 (hoping that it would assist in solving some previous problems) I find that it has a habit of seizing up/hanging on a regular basis. Hence I have to use task manager to close the program and then consequently lose my work. Thanks in advance.

David, was this a project originally in v15, transferred to v16 and now into v17?

If so, did you simply open it in the later version (which is now allowed)?

If you did not import from an iwzip (even if you did and have now done a great deal of work) could you go to step 5 export, export project and create an iwzip (you should do this FREQUENTLY to create an excellent backup (do not trust normal backup if you are suffering freezes), you can even rename each (add the date?) so you have multiple backups).

Now open WX5 and import the iwzip (this will not overwrite the existing project).

Is this more stable?

What are you doing when it freezes? Modifying something like header/footer which affects every page and possibly at multiple resolutions, or simply editing a text object or adding a photo etc.

I have found that if I click save before preview the whole environment is more stable, and if ever I notice an oddity when previewing I use ctrl+preview to refresh the whole site preview.

Please let us know your progress.

Thanks for your prompt attention as usual Esahc. Last night I had a total failure of V17 and a message asking me to reinstall. I shall do this and see if it solves the problem. I'll report back.

If WX5 has gone belly up, I would run chkdsk C: /r from an admin CMD prompt just in case it is a hd issue.

Hi Esahc, I reinstalled WX5 and all went ok for a few days. However then another problem struck. When trying to start WX5 all I get is a "ghost" image of the start up panel which disappears after a few seconds.  I'm about to try another reinstall, but all this is getting rather tiresome. I did run the chkdsk and repair option which ran very quickly and would have appeared to find no fault. I'll try again with the reinstall.

David, if the chkdsk ran very quickly I suspect it either did not run or it checked the wrong partition. You can run the simplified version by right clicking on C:, select properties, tools and error checking (scandisk) - it seems to help but is not as thorough as chkdsk.

If it is not a hardware problem, perhaps (temporarily) disable or uninstall any 3rd party anti-virus, malware, firewall and potentially vpn.

Yes it is tiring, especially when it used to work and yet now faulters.
