I Can't Upload  en

Author: Martin C.

I am trying to update my website, opening X5 I have no problem amending the relevant page(s) and saving, the problem arises when I click that final button to upload it to the web and diddly squat happens except for what we used to call the 'egg timer', trying to click again I get a message "Incomedia Website X5 (Not Responding)" as per the attached screenshot.

But after waiting and waiting I get a message "Operation Failed (Error while enumerating the remote files)"  but by then it has 'raped' my website leaving the website bare.

I have checked my anti-virus and firewall and I cannot find any programmes blocked so then I decided to try to uninstall and then reinstall X5 but:

In Programs, as per the attached screenshot, first of all it shows X5 as "Unavailable" then when I click to uninstall I get a message that Windows cannot find the program.

I have no idea which version of X5 I have, it is not on the packaging nor on the Amazon receipt, but I bought it 10 years ago.

Any ideas please?

Thanks

Martin

Martin, you need to log in here with the email and password you used to register your software, once you do so you can download a replacement copy and retrieve your activation code from your profile (top right this page).

I have neither installed, but from the screen shot it looks like either v8 or v9

The error you are getting is normally caused by an issue with your hosting or credentials, but I have seen firewall/anti virus interfere as well. In such cases I have found that if I export the project to disk then use Filezilla or similar to log into the host I can upload the website saved to disk. If the ftp program (filezilla) cannot retrieve a directory listing of your hosted files you will need to contact them.

Thanks Esahc,

I think from your first paragraph you are suggesting that I reinstall, I had tried that a few times previously and I've just tried again to be receive a message that I need to uninstall the previous copy first, the previous copy that my Windows doesn't recognise.

Having had a similar situation before, with this or other software, it was explained to me how to remove a program other than via 'Programs', i.e. to search out the file on C Drive or wherever and kick it's butt manually, if there is anyone around who may provide an idiot's guide how to uninstall it via the back door then I'd very much appreciate learning.

My hosting provider have proved to be very good and efficient in the past and they say that their house is in order, that the problem is at my end, I would be tempted to buy an update of X5 but I wouldn't be able to install it until I uninstall the old version, other than that then buy a new laptop.

Uploaded is a pic of the version that I have

Hi Martin,

unfortunately I cannot help you with this issue, as unfortunately the direct technical support for your version, which is pretty old, is no longer available (for more information please see https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/en/post/154824 and https://helpcenter.websitex5.com/en/post/196325)

Still, as far as the purchase of the new is concerned, please conside you would not need to uninstall your prevous version first, as they can both be installed on the same PC, so don't worry about this. We are having a special 30% off promotion too:

I wish you a lovely day. Kind regards.

Thanks People,

I've managed to solve it, I used the 'Reset this PC' function whereas it removes and reinstalls the Windows operating system, it warned me that I was going to lose a few programs such as my Adobe Flash, Comodo Security and Crap Cleaner but it removed several other programs such as Firefox, Thunderbird and, bless it, Website X5.

Have now reinstalled my X5 and have successfully uploaded amendments to my website for the first time in months.

So if anybody else has a similar problem whereas Windows isn't recognising an installed program I can recommend 'Reset this PC' but be aware you are going to lose all emails and addresses in any email client, all bookmarks in a web browser etc. so try to save anything important first.

Cheers
