On every page "belonging" to an item in the header, you place a menu-object to the left. You set the level for the menu(s) to the level that is for the item in the header menu.

The easiest is when you make the first page, and then copy this page to all pages for the same level - this will do that the width ( and all other settings for the menu ) and the level for the menu object will be the same for the whole level.

Before version 13 this could all be done automatically by just checking one box.

There is musc more work now, but it is more flexible - you can place the menu object whereever you want.

Unfortunately you cannot place the "sub" menu object in a sidebar as there is yet no settings available for the menu-object so you could specify which level to be shown for the pages.

This would do, that we had the "old" automatic back - and even with more flexibility.

But until then - you have to put a "sub"  menu-object on each page.

Thanks for this John, I will attemp it.

What happend is that I did this on my one site www.inktankprinters.co.za, on an earlier version.

However, I never did this on my main site, which has a huge product range, and difficut to navigate, and thus, the side bar menu would make it more user friendly.

I am just concerned if I start it now, I am going to "screw" up my main site, it seems like quite a task.

Hello Gerrit

I took a look at your site.

I see you don't use the shop, and I guess it is because of the changes of prices.

Have you considered to use the blog for displaying the products?

You could use the category to group items. And you could also use tags.

Or - you could use a database.

Some info about what I mean with database. The database can be integrated in X5.

If used outside X5 it can be made fully adaptive for mobile viewing.

Here http://eksempelsite.dk/side-4.html you can see an example of a database.

This is made for a quite different purpose - but try to imagine :

If you in the table-view  click on a firm ( imagine - product ) then you will see a page with a detail description of the product. If you choose a record that in the column "Tekst" has the name "Link" then you will see a detail description that has images and text.

If you click "Filter" and then in the dropdown for "Branchenr" then imagine that this was a list for :

Awesome offers

Epson tanks

Epson scanners

Epson disc products .... and so on

Here http://eksempelsite.dk/engdrx5/listview1.html you can see another example

And here the same as standalone and optimized for mobile view.

You can for a product show YouTube-video, images, maps, documents (PDF) and so on.

This is just for inspiration to show what can be done when using a database.

In  the database view it can be made so, that you have the table to the left, and then the detail view to the right - then it will be much the same as pages with a left-menu - but it will be much more flexible.

In the quick searc, you can search on every word in all products - and even in the detail description.

Found an example of the table to the left and detail to the right.

http://eksempelsite.dk/biler/Biler_view.php

If you click on ID = 4, then you will see that you for a product can have more records ( child records )

You can have as many levels you want.

Just made a quick example ( copy/paste ).

You can see it on this direct link : http://eksempelsite.dk/engdr/eng_firms_view.php?SelectedID=1

It is to give you an impression of what I mean. Again - imagine that the table was to the left, and the detail-view is in a window to the right ( the detail is the direct link ).

Then you could just click on a record in the table and you would see it in the window to the right.

If you want, I could make a more specific example for you.

Thanks John, you ROCK.

I have managed to add the Vertical menu to all my pages.

As far a shop goes, I actually made a copy of my site in X5 and started working on an online shop....

Until I investigaed payment integration.

There are a few local payment portals, but it is seriousdly expensive...

This is AFRICA, we are all being ripped off...

So I continue to generate my sales via email...client emails me his details and requirement, I send client an invoice, client does EFT payment to my account, we despatch the goods...

Not ideal, but its been working since 2010.

Regards.
