WebSite export to Internet suddenly stopped working  en

Hi,

After a hard dish crash on the computor where I’d had my WebSie5 Evolution 13 with the website www.brflarkan.nu it took me a couple of weeks to get it all back on track again. As soon as everything looked good and worked perfectly in the Preview function, I exported it to the Internet and let it replace my previous version of the site (which had remained intact on the web host and the internet after my hard drive crash but which I had not been able to make any changes on since the computer broke). The site looked all right, I made some small changes on it, exported them and then I checked the result online. Everything worked perfectly until suddenly ...

Suddenly the export function stopped working. In the very last step (Destination folder) a small box was seen on the screen with these depressing words: ”The selected server or destination folder do not match the WebSite URL set in General settings. Do you want to set it now?” I tried to make some changes in General settings (for example, I replaced http against https and I tried to type the address without www) but the result was the same. The same text came up as soon as I tried to upload my files.

Then I had a large number of contacts with the web hosting company One.com. I attached screen dumps showing all my export settings, and I received a number of suggestions for solutions. I tried them all, but none of them did solve the problem. I guess they finally got rather tired of me and my export problems, and their final suggestion (or maybe it was their final hope) was that there might be something the WebSite program that caused this problem.

I have also tried to recapulate what last changes I made on my site, just BEFRE the export stopped working: I know that I made some changes with those three pages that I wanted to be locked (and require a special login for those in the target groups). Another change I made was in the File manager at One.com (in order to get rid of the warning ”Not secure” when my site was opened by Google Chrome): I created an ".htssaccess"-file and pasted it in the Text editor there. (The technical support at One.com that instructe me to do so, and I think, but I’m not quite sure, that the export function did work at least once or twice after I had made that sequrity change.)

I have had such great helt from this WebSite5 Community before, so now I hope somone here will be able to give me some advice what to do.

Yours

Christer H.

If you do not have an iwzip file stored safely "off site" (ie not on your hard disk) do it now! step 5 export, export project. Do this often and rename them so you can have multiple fall back positions.

Next go to step 5, export website to disk. Select a suitable empty folder.

Now browse to your folder in windows explorer and double click on index.html.

Assuming your website looks as you require, please go to any web browser and google Filezilla. Download filezilla (it is free).

Now use Filezilla to log into your host directory (the setting will be identical to those that used to work in WX5, if you cannot connect I am sure your host one.com will be familiar with it and easily assist you.

Once connected to your host where you can see your website files online, navigate in the left hand pane to the folder where you exported you site.

Select ALL (ctrl+A), right cluick and select upload. Select new and changed and tick this session.

This will upload your site.

I do not use one.com, but I imagine that their ftp proceedures are pretty up to date. Sadly WX5 v13 does NOT have an up to date FTP client, it is quite old (v13 in no longer supported to my knowledge), and if I had to guess I would suggest one.com no longer supports "legacy" ftp apps.

Please let us know how you get on?

Hello.

  1. Try disabling your antivirus and firewall.
  2. Try to repeat the export in time.
  3. Try to export again from another computer and through another Internet connection.

Thank you very much for your help!

I guess you’re right about my old Evolution 13 not being up to date. If I were to update my Evolution 13 to the new 2019.1 version and then try to transfer my website (made in Evolution 13) to the new one, what kind difficulties should I expect to meet then? For instance, would I have to rework the layout of each page? And is that ”Classic slideshow” still in ”Gallery object” in the 2019.1 version (where I can add mp3-files with music to the slideshows)?

"what kind difficulties should I expect to meet then?" - It depends on your site.

"would I have to rework the layout of each page?" - I am pretty sure that this will not have to be done.

"And is that ”Classic slideshow” still in ”Gallery object” in the 2019.1 version (where I can add mp3-files with music to the slideshows)?" - no.
